🦶 THE FOOT — A JOURNEY THROUGH THE LAYERS
We walk on them every day, yet rarely stop to think about just how extraordinary our feet really are.
Beneath the skin lies an intricate structure of connective tissue, muscles, nerves, blood vessels, tendons, ligaments and bones — all working together to support us, balance us and move us through life.
Take a closer look beneath the surface:
1. Skin — the protective barrier against the outside world.
2. Subcutaneous fatty tissue — cushioning and protecting the tissues beneath.
3. Superficial fascia — connective tissue linking and supporting structures within the foot.
4. Plantar aponeurosis — the strong fibrous tissue supporting the arch and helping absorb load.
5. Superficial muscles — involved in movement and stability of the foot and toes.
6. Deep muscles — supporting precise movement, balance and the arches of the foot.
7. Arteries, veins & nerves — supplying the tissues and carrying sensory and motor signals.
8. Flexor & extensor tendons — connecting muscles to bones and allowing movement of the foot and toes.
9. Joint ligaments — stabilising the joints and helping keep the bones correctly aligned.
10. Bones of the foot — the framework that carries our weight and provides support as we stand, walk and move.
đź’š And this is why I find working with the feet so fascinating.
In reflexology, we see the feet from another perspective. Specific areas of the feet correspond to different areas of the body.
Through therapeutic touch and stimulation of reflex points, reflexology can encourage deep relaxation, help release tension and support a greater sense of balance and overall wellbeing.
Your feet carry your weight.
They adapt to every surface.
They help you balance.
They move you forward.
And they carry you through your entire life.
They deserve to be looked after — not sometimes, but all the time. 🦶💚
