What does freedom mean to me?
For years, the things that went around my head about myself were horrible.
I didn’t really recognise it as negative self-talk. I just thought that’s who I was.
I didn’t particularly like myself. I had very little care for myself. I drank too much, put myself in dangerous situations, made some pretty stupid choices and lived with a lot of chaos.
And I never really stopped to ask why.
If someone gave me a compliment, I’d feel so uncomfortable I could almost physically choke on it. I’d feel sick. I simply couldn’t accept something good being said about me.
It’s only as I’ve got older and started understanding my past differently that I’ve realised how much of my life was being influenced by what I believed about myself.
And that’s where my freedom has come from.
Not from having a perfect life.
From understanding myself.
Looking at my past differently.
Changing the way I speak to myself.
Letting go of beliefs about who I thought I was.
And slowly learning that I actually quite like the person underneath all of that.
I’ve gone from living in chaos to creating a life I genuinely love.
That’s why freedom means so much to me.
You don’t have to run away from your life.
You can finally be free enough to actually enjoy the one you’ve created.
