OUT & ABOUT WITH SCOUT 🐾

🙄 I had a weird start today when a group (booked in via a tour company for a bespoke morning of yoga) failed to turn up; not one of them. Stranger still, they didn’t contact me or the tour company to say they weren’t coming. I didn’t find out until the tour operator, who I had to contact myself, managed to get hold of one of them to see where they were. It’s the first and hopefully the last time this has happened to me in ten years of yoga teaching!

🏃🏽‍♀️ So it was a pleasure to enjoy some uncomplicated time out on the trail with my furry pal this afternoon. After a couple of days of heavy rain and low cloud I was grateful to see the hills again. Mountain views, river flow, some solid exercise, time with my pal, sanity restored.

💚 The lush greenery of the woodlands reminded me of my drought suffering pals down south; sending cool green love to you all.

H E A R T B R E A K I N G

I’ve been following the wildfires with great sadness, watching the places that we love burn. Seeing the mountains that we view as friends in such trouble. Huge to all those working tirelessly on this.

On Thursday afternoon, after 9 days of fighting the fire, and narrowing in on hotspots and smoulders - the winds picked up and switched direction reigniting flames and sending them into new precious ground with terrifying speed and intensity.
Again - much gratitude and respect to all involved; RSPB team and volunteers, fire brigade, gamekeepers, landowners, foresters, farmers, plant operators, helicopters and many more, all supported by an incredible local, and wider community
The effort will continue, we need the conditions too 🤞🏻

💙 WATER LIKE SILK

I’m very to have this at the end of the road. After a hot few couple of days I finally managed to squeeze in time for a cooling dip.

🥶 Usually, swimming in the Highlands is all about the cold, what neoprene to wear, how long to stay in for. But just occasionally, there’s no need for gloves or wet socks. The water is like silk and you never want to get out.

🪰 It’s a wee slice of heaven, or it would be if there weren’t hordes of voracious clegs* lying in wait for you the minute you get out! Got to love the Highlands - biting beasties and all.

* clegs or cleggs are horseflies and they can give a nasty bite. Wee feckers!

💙 We have a FREE (cleg free) community Blue Mind swim on Saturday at 9am with at the West End Carpark at 9am.

⛰️ WHERE ARE WE?

🧭 A fun day at the weekend teaching Navigation Essentials to this lovely group of keen women.

🗺️ Lots of confidence gained, skills consolidated and plans made for becoming more independent on the hill. Plus the bonus of having Ardsheal Hill all to ourselves as we strode about looking for features!

WILD WEATHER

A weekend exploring Canna and failing to climb. We optimistically lugged our climbing gear to the island hoping for a weather window but high winds, heavy rain and big seas meant it was not to be. I didn’t even get in the water let alone on the rock!

All my climbing plans so far this season have coincided with bad weather. I think I need a reframe and a new goal - any suggestions?

W A T E R

🪼 A dip in the loch on the way home, joined by some wee jellyfish.

💙How important is water to us right now? Feeling lots of gratitude for having access to this.

🙄 What social media doesn’t show you is that I left the car windows open when I parked up but forgot it sets off the car alarm. Idyllic lochside views only slightly marred by the noise! Fortunately there’s no one around to disturb.
