π We understand that waiting for your appointment can be frustrating, and we sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused when our clinicians run late. We want to be transparent about why this sometimes happens. π
Complex Cases: Not all conditions fit neatly into a standard 15-minute slot. Some patients present with complex health issues, multiple symptoms, or significant emotional distress that require more in-depth discussion and care to ensure a safe and thorough consultation.
Unforeseen Emergencies: Occasionally, a patient will arrive at the surgery with an urgent, life-threatening condition or an unexpected emergency will occur during a patient's appointment. Our duty is to provide immediate care, which naturally takes priority and can cause delays for subsequent appointments.
Documentation & Administration: After each patient, GPs need to update medical records, write referrals, issue prescriptions, and review test results. This essential administrative work, while invisible to the patient, adds up throughout the day.
Please be assured that when a Clinician runs over, it is usually because they are dedicating the necessary time to another patient's critical health needs, just as they would for you if your situation required it.
How you can help:
β°Be on time for your appointment
π
Book a double appointment if you have several issues to discuss
π¨βπ»π©βπ»Ask our reception team which clinician is best for your particular health issue, often a GP Extended Access telephone appointment, Advance Nurse Practitioner or Clinical Pharmacist can help rather than waiting for a face to face GP appointment.
Thank you for your understanding and patience.
