A beautiful and heartfelt service was held on Friday, 21st August, at Kirkcaldy Crematorium to celebrate the life of a much-loved young man and a true one-of-a-kind, tragically taken from this world, Mr Daniel Vettrino, affectionately known to so many as Danny.
Danny’s loving family gathered outside his home in Dysart to welcome him back there one final time, before accompanying him on his final journey to Kirkcaldy Crematorium. On arrival, they were joined by many more of Danny’s relatives, friends and loved ones, who had travelled from different parts of the world to be there. During his time working away, Danny had made many lifelong friendships, and it was a fitting reflection of the impact he had on so many that so many had come together to pay their respects.
As Danny arrived at the crematorium, he was guided into the chapel by a lone piper, who played ‘Highland Cathedral’ beautifully as the large congregation watched on. As everyone made their way into the chapel, ‘You Are Not Alone’ by Gleeman played softly in the background. Danny was then brought into the chapel with great dignity and respect by some of those closest to him. It was a fitting and deeply personal tribute, and they did him incredibly proud. Before taking their seats, the bearers each placed a thistle upon Danny’s coffin, a simple but poignant gesture that reflected the man they had come to say goodbye to. The service was conducted by Mr Denis Madden, who delivered a warm and heartfelt eulogy, beautifully reflecting on Danny’s life, his character and the many people whose lives he had touched. There were, understandably, many tears throughout the service, but amongst the sadness were also smiles and moments of gentle laughter as stories were shared and cherished memories brought back to life. One thing was certain, Danny did things his way, and there will never be another quite like him. Those gathered were then invited to spend a few quiet moments reflecting on Danny and the memories they held dear, accompanied by Tom Jones’ ‘I Will Not Crumble If You Fall’. A touching slideshow of photographs was also shown on the chapel screens, capturing just some of the many special moments Danny shared with his family, friends and work colleagues throughout his life. Denis then led the committal with great care and compassion, as everyone said their own quiet and personal farewell to Danny. The service concluded with Frank Sinatra’s ‘My Way’, a fitting final choice for a man who truly lived life on his own terms. Donations were invited in Danny’s memory to Andy’s Man Club, with contributions made very generously by those in attendance.
Michelle and all of Danny’s family would like to sincerely thank everyone who attended the service, as well as those who sent cards, flowers and messages of love and support. Every kind word, gesture and expression of sympathy has meant so much and brought comfort to the family during this incredibly difficult time.
