Three days of training. One shared commitment to staying rescue-ready.

Last week, colleagues from each MRS centre across the UK gathered at our MRS Training & Rescue Mansfield training centre for a specialist three-day course delivered by Dräger.

The course focused on maintaining and using the breathing apparatus equipment that plays a vital role in our work, covering:
• Open-circuit breathing apparatus
• Escape sets
• Air trolleys

Keeping our trainers and rescue operatives up to date with the latest knowledge and practical skills is essential - whether they're delivering training to our customers or supporting our industrial rescue services day to day.

Continued professional development isn't just about ticking a box. It's about maintaining competence, confidence and readiness when it matters most.

Thank you to Dräger for delivering the course, and to our teams from across the UK for their continued commitment to learning and high standards.

❤️️️It's Restart a Heart Day! | Friday 16 October 2026 ❤️

If someone collapsed in front of you, would you know what to do?

Knowing CPR and how to use a defibrillator (AED) could make all the difference in a cardiac arrest emergency. Restart a Heart Day encourages more people to learn these vital skills and feel confident enough to act when someone needs help.

We're proud to support the message that anyone can learn skills that could save a life.

Our Qualsafe-accredited first aid training courses include hands-on practice in CPR and resuscitation and using a defibrillator (AED). It's not just about knowing what to do - it's about practising the skills so you're better prepared to act.

This Restart a Heart Day, why not take the first step towards learning a skill that could save someone's life?

Over a century of preparation, expertise and commitment.

Take a look back at this archive footage of our mines rescue teams carrying out a mock rescue exercise in a smoke-filled mine.

These exercises are essential in preparing rescuers for the challenges of a real emergency - building the skills, teamwork and confidence needed when lives may depend on them.

We've been doing this since 1902, and today we remain the UK's largest private-sector mines rescue company, maintaining a national mines rescue scheme and technical rescue service.

More than 120 years of experience. One enduring commitment: being ready when we're needed.

💚 World Mental Health Day - Every Day Matters

World Mental Health Day may have been on Saturday 10 October, but raising awareness, challenging stigma and supporting mental wellbeing is something we can all do every day.

Mental health is just as important as physical health, and creating supportive workplaces starts with open conversations, understanding and knowing how to help when someone is struggling.

At MRS, we offer Qualsafe accredited Mental Health First Aid in the Workplace Level 2 and Level 3 courses, available as open courses to book through our online course finder.

These courses can help develop the knowledge and confidence needed to recognise when someone may be experiencing mental health difficulties, approach conversations with greater understanding and contribute to a more supportive workplace culture.

💚 Let's break the stigma, start conversations and make mental wellbeing a priority.

Are your tools tethered? That doesn't necessarily mean the dropped-object risk is controlled.

When working at height, effective tool tethering depends on more than simply attaching a lanyard to a tool.

The tether, attachment point and anchor all need to be suitable for the task - while factors such as tool weight, fall distance, movement, weather, working conditions and human factors also need to be considered.

In our latest article, we look at why effective dropped-object prevention needs to go beyond a tick-box approach, and how organisations can make sure their controls work in the real world.
