With this glorious weather we have at the moment, we can really appreciate the energy of the Sun. So, a great time to release our next event…
Summer Solstice Retreat Day - Sat June 20st
Booking via email, or linkinbio..
The name is derived from the Latin words Sol (Sun) and Sistere (to stand still). Where we pause to honour the light, the growth, the greening of Nature.
The morning of June 21st is the traditional celebration of the Summer Solstice. This is when the Sun reaches its highest position in the sky, and we have the longest periods of daylight. It marks the seasonal move fully into Summer, always a win for me! The Summer Solstice has always been a significant time in many cultures, honoured with festivals and rituals.
With Pagan Pre-Christian roots, it is also linked to celebrating the birth of John the Baptist. The birth of John the Baptist is marked by the greening of the land. Men traditionally wear a headrest of flowers called kopel and flowery shirts.
Also called Midsummer, as different regions think of it as the middle of summer, others the beginning. Although ‘Midsomer’ actually falls a few days later.
In India, within the context of Hinduism, the Summer Solstice is known as the Uttarayana. It is a day denoted with celebration, observation, and practice of Yoga.
