As part of Dementia Action Week, weโ€™re exploring how meaningful activities can make a difference.

In this part of Ireneโ€™s journey, we explore how music therapy plays an important role in daily life.

These sessions support physical wellbeing, boost mood, encourage social connection and bring moments of joy.

Watch to see how engaging with music can make a meaningful difference.

As part of Dementia Action Week, weโ€™re looking at the importance of connection and community.

Living with dementia doesnโ€™t mean facing it alone.

Dementia cafรฉs, support groups and community events offer a safe and welcoming space for people living with dementia and their families to connect, share experiences and find support.

Care homes also play an important role, providing not just care and support, but a sense of community, routine and belonging.

If you or someone you know is affected by dementia, reaching out can make a real difference. You can find more information at https://mha.org.uk/care-support/types-care-support/dementia-care

As part of Dementia Action Week, weโ€™re exploring the journey of choosing the right care.

Irene and her family share how they made the important decision to choose the right care home for her, while Sue (Home Manager) reflects on how she has settled into life at MHA Fitzwarren House and the support that has helped her feel at home.

If youโ€™re supporting a loved one, this may help. To learn more about dementia care, please visit: CTA, link through to: https://mha.org.uk/care-support/types-care-support/dementia-care

As part of Dementia Action Week, weโ€™re highlighting simple ways to support someone living with dementia.

Supporting someone with dementia isnโ€™t about having all the answers, itโ€™s about patience, understanding and compassion. Here are a few simple ways to help:

Enter their world - If theyโ€™re confused, try not to correct or argue. Instead, respond to how they feel in that moment.

Listen beyond words - body language, tone and emotion often say more than words ever could.

Use simple, calm communication - Short sentences and a gentle tone can make conversations easier and less overwhelming.

Be patient โ€” What may seem small to us can feel very real and important to them.

Dementia affects not just memory, but how a person experiences the world. A little understanding can make a big difference.
