As Mental Health Awareness Month draws to a close, looking after your wellbeing doesn’t stop here.

At Tavistock Physio Clinics we see how closely physical and mental wellbeing are connected — pain, stiffness, stress, and low mood can all influence one another, but small, steady steps can help.

Movement is one of the simplest tools we have. From physiotherapy to strength work or group classes, staying active can support both body and mind.

You don’t need to wait for the “right time” to start feeling better — every positive step counts, no matter how small.

It’s common to hear discomfort explained as simply “age-related”.

But pain, stiffness, and reduced mobility are not inevitable outcomes of ageing alone.

More often, they reflect:
- Changes in strength
- Reduced joint tolerance to load
- Previous injuries
- Long-term movement habits

The encouraging part is that these factors are often modifiable.

Physiotherapy focuses on restoring capacity and confidence in movement—not just managing symptoms in isolation.

If something is limiting your day-to-day activity, it’s worth understanding why rather than accepting it as unavoidable.

If you’d like support with ongoing aches, stiffness, or reduced mobility, get in touch with the clinic to discuss how physiotherapy can help.

☀️ As temperatures rise on the hottest day of the year so far, it’s worth remembering that hot weather can leave the body feeling more fatigued and dehydrated — especially if you’re spending longer outdoors, gardening, walking more, or staying active. This can sometimes contribute to stiffness, cramping, or flare-ups of existing aches and pains.

A few simple reminders for today:
• Stay hydrated throughout the day, not just when you feel thirsty
• Take regular breaks if you’re gardening or active outdoors
• Gentle movement is often better than staying still for long periods
• If you’re exercising, consider adjusting intensity in the heat

Enjoy the sunshine safely 😎

📍Exciting news from Tavistock Physio Clinics! 🎉

We’ve got a new home in Tavistock — and we couldn’t be more excited to share it with you!

You’ll now find us every Monday at TASS (Tavistock Area Support Services), right next to the bus station — a brilliant central location making it even easier to access the care and support you need. 💙

We’re so pleased to be joining the TASS community and incredibly grateful for the warm welcome we’ve received already. It feels like the perfect partnership — two organisations passionate about helping people live well, side by side.

And don’t worry — it’s still business as usual at both our Lamerton and Yelverton clinics:

✔️ Same friendly team
✔️ Same expert care
✔️ Just an exciting new space to do what we love

We can’t wait to welcome you there!

Not all movement needs to be intense to be effective.

A 15–20 minute walk can:
✅ Help maintain joint mobility
✅ Support circulation
✅ Ease feelings of stiffness in the spine and hips
✅ Positively influence mood and stress levels

Walking is one of the simplest and most underused tools for recovery and maintenance. The key is consistency—not distance or speed!

If walking currently feels uncomfortable, it doesn’t always mean you should avoid it. It may simply mean you need a different starting point, pace, or duration.
Movement should meet your body where it is now—not where you feel it “should” be.

Mental health and physical health are often spoken about separately, but they’re closely linked.

When stress levels rise, the body responds—muscles tighten, breathing becomes shallower, and pain sensitivity can increase.

Movement is one of the most effective ways to interrupt that cycle. You don’t need a structured workout for this. A walk, gentle mobility, or simply changing position regularly can help regulate both the nervous system and muscular tension.

This Mental Health Awareness Week, consider movement less as “exercise” and more as a way of helping both the body and mind to settle.
