⭐ last week of term ⭐

We made it through the half term! Just! I couldn't quite manage the last few days as a sickness bug caught me and struck me down on Wednesday! But luckily, after some rest I was ready for peer supervision on Sunday.

This half term has been stupidly busy-

2x training weekends in Maidenhead
1x family birthday trip away
1x friends birthday trip away
1x Rainbow Festival
1x peer supervision
Countless therapy sessions
And general life of 3 little kiddies! Oh and a dog!

No wonder I didn't quite make it to the end of the week! πŸ€¦πŸ»β€β™€οΈπŸ˜… I knew April and May were going to be busy, and I knew I needed to make sure I looked after myself, but life moves so quickly and the time to look after myself didn't seem to be there! This next half term is much quieter so I will be really concentrating on slowing down, and meaning it!

The beautiful Charlotte also finished for maternity leave this week and I missed her last days! πŸ˜₯ But there will be many cups of tea consumed and catch ups even if not much work!

I'm taking the week off to enjoy the sunshine with my little family so I'll see you next week! 🧑

⭐ A little parenting reflection ⭐

Being a parent is hard! Raising children is hard!

My son, M, goes swimming with school. He stopped private swimming lessons a few years ago because it was getting a bit too tough, and we felt confident that he could swim well enough. This year however, they have been every week and he hasn't once complained about it, until this week.

This week he told us, they were told they each had to swim 24 lengths to help raise money for the pool. (We'd had a letter about something to do with this, but couldn't find it...typical!) Anyway, the day came and he was saying he didn't want to go swimming, but myself and my husband had agreed that we wanted to encourage him to just give it a go. Every ounce of me wanted to say, 'that's fine, don't worry, you don't need to do it', but I knew that if he gave it a go, he would be so proud of himself. So we continued to encourage, but his uniform wasn't feeling right, his socks were uncomfortable and by 8.30am it was time to leave the house, he suddenly became completely distressed. He was scared and nervous and you could feel the adrenaline rushing through him from how he was moving!

It was at this point that I felt I had to make the decision to let him not go swimming. Not because I 'gave in', but because his fight/flight response kicked in and he'd run back to the house from the car. I knew deep down that once he got to school he would be fine, but sometimes, truly listening to our children and letting them know that we are there for them is the most important part of parenting! I could have carried on pushing him, and yes, he'd probably have gone swimming, but a little piece of our trust and connection could have gone and I'm not up for that! So maybe I am a push over, or not hard enough on my kids, but I know, that he knows, I will always encourage, but always, without a doubt, listen to what he knows he needs!! Trusting our children and listening to their needs is SO important!

Anyway, a little vulnerable story about parenting, but if he helps you in any way to reflect on a time you've found hard, trust your instincts! 🧑

⭐ Another Week ⭐

Finished off this week with another training weekend in Cookham for the young persons therapy course. Another insightful learning opportunity with a group of inspirational ladies! Conversations around our own teenage experiences, what it's like growing up today as a.teen, looking at theory and cultural identity! So much to reflect on and process before our last training weekend next month. I'm really enjoying being a student again and using my brain in a different way. It's been a while since I've had to write an assignment so starting to get some reading in to get started!

Work wise included putting the hub back together after the festival, lots of lovely sessions, and as always, emails galore!

One more week to go before it's half term and I definitely feel as though I'm crawling there! We have peer supervision on Sunday and then it's time for a week off to reconnect with my family and recharge before the final half term of the year! The fastest academic year ever...?

⭐ Festival Week ⭐

Wow, wow, wow! I'm not sure where to start with this week. I feel as though I've been building up to this weekend for over a month and now it's finally happened! Leading up to our open day/festival, I have been a huge mixture of excitement and nerves! SO much hard work has been put in to this behind the scenes and the amount of voice notes myself and Charlotte have shared to get this day happening is unbelievable! Last minute painting, sign making, emails, advertising, so much social media (!), and restless nights just hoping that people would come and that it would be successful! Well, I didn't need to worry, because it was fantastic! For a first full hub opening, it was brilliant and everyone who was involved was fantastic, I can't thank them enough!

Sunday was my first full day off in over a month with no plans and we decided to have a full family day climbing Gummer's Howe. All the kids reached the top with no moaning and walking the whole way! It was a miracle! What a great walk with insane views!! Finished off with a roast and the kids turning dinner into a restaurant with candles saying it's been the perfect day! 🧑 It's a little reminder that the all important connection time and spending time together is what is needed! I think it's probably been a while since I've been fully present with my kids all day and they've felt it, as have I!!

And on to another week! Sessions, meetings, planning and tidying the hub back to it's normal state!! Thank you again to everyone who has sent messages of support or who attended the day! It truly means the world! πŸ’ž

⭐ The week before Christmas ⭐

This week I wasn't in sessions after a crazily busy year and we went away for a few days with family. It felt special to celebrate an early Christmas and to fully enter in to the Christmas spirit.

The weather has also not been too bad, so we've been to the beach, been on a light walk where we toasted the most delicious marshmallows and embraced the colder weather.

As we enter the week of Christmas, remember, your presence is more important that any present! πŸŽ„

⭐ A day in the life ⭐

I thought it would be good to film a day in the life, however my days are so different every day so this is just one version! πŸ˜…

Now that most of the painting and setting up of the new hub is finished, it feels great to have a little bit of time back in the mornings to sort out general life admin, as well as work admin!

What you don't see are the tidy ups in-between sessions, the quick dashes to different places, the phone calls and more often than not, tears from tired little people when I get home! But I hope you enjoy an edited version of my days!!
