"One inspiring teaching each week"
🌟 Who are the Three Jewels ?

Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha are known as the Three Jewels. When we go for refuge to the Three Jewels we enter into the Buddhist family.

Buddha is the source of all teachings and blessings, Dharma is the realization of Buddha’s teachings, and Sangha is the pure Dharma practitioners who help us with our spiritual practice.

Dharma is like medicine that prevents the sufferings of the three lower realms, Buddha is the doctor who gives us this medicine, and the Sangha are the nurses who assist us.

At present we are human and free from lower rebirth, but this is only a temporary and not a permanent liberation from lower rebirth. Until we gain a deep realization of refuge, we shall have to take lower rebirth again and again in countless future lives. We attain permanent liberation from lower rebirth by sincerely relying upon the Three Jewels.

Understanding this, we go for refuge to Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha.

"One inspiring teaching each week"
🌟 What is the practice of going for refuge ?

In this context, "going for refuge" means seeking refuge in Buddha, Dharma and sangha. The purpose of this practice is to protect ourself from taking lower rebirth. At the present, because we are human, we are free from rebirth as an animal, hungry ghost or hell being, but is only temporary. We are like a prisoner who gets permission to stay at home for a week, but then has to return to prison. We need permanent liberation from sufferings of this life and countless future lives. This depends upon entering, making progress on and completing the Buddhist path to liberation, which in turn depends upon entering Buddhism.
We enter Buddhism through the practice pot going for refuge. For our practice of refuge to be qualified, while visualising Buddha in front of us we should verbally or mentally make a promise to seek refuge in Buddha, Dharma and Sangha throughout our life. This promise is our refuge vow and is the gatheway through which we enter Buddhism.

"One inspiring teaching each week"
🌟 What is Lamrim, the stages of the path to enlightenment and how we practice it?

Lamrim is a special set of instructions that includes all the essential teachings of Buddha Shakyamuni arranged in such a way that all his Hinayana and Mahayana teachings can be put into practice in a single meditation session.

β€œTo follow the Buddhist path to enlightenment there is no need to change our external lifestyle. We do not need to abandon our family, friends or enjoyments and retire to a mountain cave.
All we need to do is change the object of our cherishing.
Until now we have cherished ourself above all others, and for as long as we continue to do this our suffering will never end. However, if we learn to cherish all beings more than ourself, we will soon enjoy the bliss of Buddhahood.
The path to enlightenment is really very simple - all we need to do is stop cherishing ourself and learn to cherish others.
All other spiritual realizations will naturally follow from this.”

"One inspiring teaching each week"
🌟 What are Delusions ?
β€œDelusions are distorted ways of looking at ourself, other people and the world around us. The way a deluded mind views these phenomena does not accord with reality.
The deluded mind of hatred, for example, views another person as intrinsically bad, but there is no such thing as an intrinsically bad person.
Desirous attachment, on the other hand, sees its object of desire as intrinsically good and as a true source of happiness. If we have a strong craving to eat chocolate, chocolate appears to us to be an intrinsically desirable object. However, once we have eaten too much of it and start to feel sick, it no longer seems so desirable and may even appear repulsive.
This shows that in itself chocolate is neither desirable nor repulsive. It is the mind of attachment that projects onto it all kinds of desirable qualities and then relates to it as if it really did possess those qualities.
All delusions function like this, projecting onto the world their own distorted version of reality and then relating to this projection as if it were true.
When our mind is under the influence of delusions, we are out of touch with reality and are, in a sense, hallucinating.
Since our mind is under the influence of at least subtle forms of delusion all the time, it is not surprising that our lives are so often filled with frustration. It is as if we are continually chasing mirages, only to be disappointed when they do not give us the satisfaction for which we had hoped.
