It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of Pete Ford.

Pete was a valued colleague at Beaumont College for many years and a long‑standing member of the Residential Management Team. His kindness, dedication, and steady presence touched the lives of countless students and staff.

Pete will be deeply missed, and our thoughts are with his family, friends, and all who knew him.

🎓👩‍🎓Beaumont College South Lakes has celebrated the achievements of their 2026 graduates today. 🎊🎉

The Graduation Ceremony was held in style at the Coro Hall in Ulverston, with families and friends in attendance. We greatly appreciate the efforts of the Coro Hall Team in providing such an impressive venue for us.

Every moment was magical, acknowledging not only the fantastic journey of discovery that the students have completed, but the efforts of the South Lakes Team in supporting that journey.

Musical talent was also evident throughout the day, starting with Mel performing her traditional welcome. After the formal ceremony had taken place, the college band 'The Lightburners' performed two of their original songs, followed by Robbie and Matt's music to round off the day's event. Everybody then joined the dance floor to party in style!

We are truly proud of every one of our graduates as they continue their journey into adulthood, no matter what their next adventure will be. The positive feedback from many people involved in our Graduation Day confirmed the appreciation and love that everybody has for Beaumont College South Lakes and the progress that our graduates have made.

🌟 Congratulations to our stars of 2026! 🌟

🌟🚴 A huge thank you to Friends of Beaumont! 🚴🌟

The students and therapy team at Beaumont Lancaster would like to say a massive THANK YOU to Friends of Beaumont for their incredible generosity. Their recent donation has provided our students with brand‑new trikes, bringing huge smiles and even bigger adventures!

Friends of Beaumont have also funded two sets of postural management equipment, including an AAT cushion (already put to great use at the beach last week!) and a PostureSnug cushion system. These highly adaptable cushions open up so many opportunities, helping students access activities they wouldn’t otherwise be able to enjoy.

Your kindness truly makes a difference.

🍰🤝 Community Session & Catering Group Collaboration for Skerton St Luke’s Summer Fair 🤝🍰

As part of our Community Session, students worked jointly with the Catering Group to support Skerton St Luke’s Summer Fair by commissioning a bake to donate. The Catering Group produced a fantastic batch of 30+ scones, fruit, chocolate, plain and cheesy, each bagged up and ready to sell. Our Community Group (also known as the Transportation Crew) then delivered the scones to the school and handed them over to Jazmin Mulholland, Chair of the PTA, who received them on behalf of the fair.

This was a positive shared project that helped learners build confidence through meeting new people, trying new experiences in the community, and developing teamwork, communication, independence and responsibility while representing our service in a meaningful way.

The next stage of the project will be donating a curated selection of toys and books for the school’s sensory room, gathered over the year and collected by the group.

💦🗑️ South Walney Beach Clean ♻️💦

An ‘Environmental Studies and Outdoor Adventure’ group from Beaumont College South Lakes collaborated with partner organisations to carry out an all-day beach clean at South Walney Nature Reserve.

What is South Walney Nature Reserve? Protected by Cumbria Wildlife Trust, and with amazing views across Morecambe Bay, this location is a fantastic place for bird watching. It is also home to the only colony of grey seals in North West England.

Under the guidance of Milly from the Lakes Aquarium and Jess who used to work at Dalton Zoo, the group set out not only to remove things which shouldn’t be on the beach but to see how many natural discoveries they could make, too.

Searching for litter demonstrated the large variety of items which are either discarded on the beach or washed up by the tide. From traffic cones to oil cans and bottle tops to plastic wrap, there was plenty of cleaning up to do.

The students also found natural items such as crabs, shells, skulls, shark skins and egg cases.

Apart from the group spotting some seals bobbing up and down in the sea, the rarest find of the day was made by Jack, who discovered a bottle containing a list of names of people through the years, signed by people who had found the bottle. There was also a geocache in the bottle. After looking at the contents, the bottle was sealed again, ready for the next adventurer to find.

At the end of the session, after collecting the rubbish, the students took their bin bags to the Coastguards Cottages for safe disposal.

Have a look at our video slideshow to find out what a fabulous experience the group had. Well done everybody!

🌊✨ Beach Day Freedom at Fleetwood! ✨🌊

Our students enjoyed their first-ever visit to this incredible volunteer‑run beach resource in Fleetwood, and what a day it was. With the tide low and the sun warm, students rolled effortlessly across miles of sand in the fabulous beach wheelchairs, streamers flying and bubbles drifting in the breeze.

The wonderful volunteers worked hand‑in‑hand with our Teachers, LSWs, Student Support, OT and Physio teams to ensure every student experienced comfort, joy and a real sense of freedom. From splashing through shallow pools to taking in the vast 4‑mile shoreline, the smiles said it all.

A huge thank you to the Fleetwood volunteers for making this unforgettable experience possible.

✨ Stepping Into the Frame - Beaumont College Exhibition ✨

We’re incredibly proud to share Stepping Into the Frame, a vibrant, student-led exhibition inspired by the groundbreaking 2014 project 11 Million Reasons to Dance. Just like the original, our learners have reimagined iconic dance-film moments - but with their own creativity, humour and individuality at the heart of every shot.

Across dance, performance, art and media sessions, students from all three hubs have collaborated, experimented and discovered new connections. From movement games and character exploration to costume play and full photo shoots with Julie, this project has been a joyful journey of expression. Using LED lights, a single spotlight and a dramatic dark backdrop, our learners truly stepped into the frame - smashing expectations and bringing their characters to life with confidence and personality.

This exhibition belongs to them. Their ideas, their energy, their artistry. And it shows.

🚑🐤 Students Rescue a Gull Chick in Need 🐤🚑

Students at Beaumont College South Lakes were working in their garden during a Horticulture session. One of the group, Saskia, noticed an unexpected visitor, in the form of a herring gull chick, casually strolling into the college grounds.

After students had watched the chick for a while, they noticed that the noisy adult gulls flying overhead had moved away, leaving the chick alone, confused and with a mild skin condition.

Bardsea Bird Sanctuary, located near the College, is a non-profit organisation that specialises in supporting birds that have found themselves in difficulty around the Furness area. We contacted Elisabeth at the sanctuary and she asked us to bring the chick to her.

After a short drive in the college minibus, the group arrived at Bardsea. Saskia and Isabelle teamed together to carry the crate and its fluffy passenger into the Sanctuary.

A well-deserved cat food snack was given by Isabelle, then the chick was admitted to the bird hospital to allow time for recovery and eventual release.

🌟Fantastic work from the Horticulture students showing their caring nature.🌟

🌟The Sky is the Limit! 🌟

Huge congratulations to Beaumont College South Lakes students Robbie and Kian, who recently took a massive step toward their futures with an inspiring visit to Lancaster University!

As they prepare to move on to Furness College in September to study Information Technology and Catering, Robbie and Kian spent the day exploring what the future could hold. From learning about unique degrees (Tournament Golf, anyone?) and quirky campus societies like Underwater Hockey, to touring the vibrant campus hub, they saw first hand just how big the world of higher education is.

🤩 "You are not the odd one out."

One of the biggest highlights of the day was hearing from Luke Halpin, a Masters student diagnosed with ADHD and Autism. Luke shared his powerful journey of struggling in school but finding a welcoming, thriving community at university where he truly belongs. His golden advice?

"Don't be afraid of the academics, and be willing to use the extensive support available."

🪜Support Every Step of the Way

The team at Lancaster University—including Richard Cupit, Widening Participation Officer and Ali Morrison from the Disability & Inclusive Practice Service (who used to work at Beaumont Lancaster!) —highlighted that higher education is accessible to everyone. With over 3,900 students with disabilities currently thriving at Lancaster, the university provides:

• Inclusive Learning Support Plans tailored to individual strengths and challenges.

• Assistance applying for Disabled Students Allowances.

• A specialised "Preparing for Lancaster" online course for neurodiverse students.

Robbie and Kian were buzzing when they left the campus, inspired and knowing that university is a very real and attainable option for their futures.

We are incredibly proud of you both—keep dreaming big!
