Today we have been remembering Beatrix Potter, she was an author famous for writing books for children,The Tale of Peter Rabbit, Benjamin rabbit and many more,.We wanted to celebrate her work by having a colouring competition, some residents enjoyed participating and had fun creating their unique colourful pictures. We chose a winner and gave out a prize.

This afternoon we all got together to complete circuits of our home and garden, working towards our 1000 miles in July challenge. We had a great time walking around and chatting with each other. We then sat together and celebrated with a visit from the ice cream van 🍦 even Margot the dog got involved 🍦

Another date for your diary in our walking 1000 miles in July challenge! We would love to have you join us for the last mile and to enjoy some lovely refreshments afterwards. We will be meeting at 2pm. Everyone is welcome 🙂👣🍰🥤

We are joining in with the UK Big butterfly count which starts today 17th July through till the 9th August. Already we have spent today creating our own collage of butterflies for residents who have difficulty going into the garden, we now have this displayed in our lounge. We have spent time in the garden and managed to see a few fluttering about.

Due to the hot weather we have been keeping our residents entertained and amused and trying to keep up with our 100 mile challenge. We have incorporated some balloon games by using brightly coloured balloons of various sizes, these can help visually and are easy to hold. By kicking the balloons residents were able to incorporate this into their challenge and have lots of fun too.

On Friday some of us attempted a Danceathon to raise money for our 1000 mile challenge. Lily kindly came to sing again as she went down a storm on her last visit to our home. She sang lots of happy and upbeat songs to family and staff to help keep up the momentum through the hot weather and to help with their dancing. We managed around 6 miles....Yippee and Well Done everyone for their support and commitment.

Ashley Residents have been keeping themselves occupied by doing activities out of the sun and keeping cool indoors. We have enjoyed playing Bingo, games and quizzes and being creative. Keeping minds and hands active without over-exertion and hydration throughout this heatwave is very important and adapting activities to suit their needs.
