🎉👏 Huge congratulations to Hilary on her incredible charity walk! Yesterday, she completed her journey with a triumphant return from The Angel Cafe to Portcullis, surrounded by the love and support of our wonderful residents, staff, and Eve our Chief Operating Officer.

Everyone was out cheering and clapping as Hilary and her trusty companion Ziggy arrived—what a moment! 🎊 Nicola welcomed her with a heartfelt hug, expressing how proud we all are of her achievements.

A special shoutout to Bea, who joined Hilary for 14 of her walks.

It's so inspiring to see how Hilary has been supported by her family—her mum Iris, husband, brother, and friends have been there every step of the way. ❤️

After the celebration, everyone enjoyed some delightful tea and cakes. Thank you to everyone who has supported Hilary on this amazing journey!

Last Sunday, our wonderful Activities Co-ordinator, Hilary, completed her 13th walk and reached an incredible 200-mile milestone! 🎉🚶‍♀️

Joining Hilary on this walk was Jane, who runs Langport's Dementia Action Alliance Monday Club. Several of our residents regularly attend the Monday Club, so it was a lovely opportunity to walk together. They made their way from Lavender Court to Pulsford Lodge – a beautiful route, although the warm weather certainly made it a challenge!

As with every home visited along the way, both Lavender Court - Somerset Care and Pulsford Lodge - Somerset Care gave Hilary and Jane a wonderfully warm welcome, cheering them on and providing much-appreciated refreshments and a well-earned rest at the end of the walk.

This walk also welcomed a very special new companion – Teddy. 🧸❤️

Teddy belonged to a lovely lady who lived at Portcullis, When Hilary first planned this walking challenge, she became one of its biggest supporters, always asking how the walks had gone and looking forward to seeing the photos. She even surprised Hilary by coming out with Natalie, Deputy and another resident to cheer her on halfway through one of the walks.

Her family have kindly asked if Teddy could accompany Hilary on the remaining walks before returning home to be with them. It is a wonderful tribute to a much-loved lady, ensuring she remains part of this special journey every step of the way.

Congratulations, Hilary, on reaching the amazing 200-mile milestone, and thank you to everyone who has supported her along the way. 💙

We are very lucky to have so many cultures represented here at Portcullis House, and this year we decided to celebrate that diversity together.

Our residents and team explored the internet and YouTube to learn more about the countries, religions, and spiritual traditions that make up our wonderful community. We then created an information wall to share what we discovered and celebrate the rich backgrounds of everyone at Portcullis House.

Of course, no cultural celebration would be complete without food! We were treated to a delicious Gambian benachin – a flavourful chicken and rice dish lovingly prepared by Musa, one of our carers. We also enjoyed a wonderful selection of Indian sweets and street foods, including samosas, bhajis, pakoras, and medu vada, kindly brought in by Akshay and Gowri. Dotty completed our international feast with traditional Polish sausages and chocolate.

It was a fantastic day of learning, sharing stories, and enjoying delicious food from around the world. A huge thank you to everyone who helped make the celebration so special!

💙 Carers Week | 8–14 June 💙

This week, we’re saying a heartfelt thank you to all unpaid carers - family members, friends, and loved ones - who give their time, compassion and support every single day.

Your contribution is invaluable, and we recognise the difference you make, often while facing your own challenges.

This year’s theme focuses on building carer-friendly communities - reminding carers that they are not alone, and that support, advice and guidance is available.

Together, we can help build stronger, more supportive communities for carers 💙

🔨 We are very lucky to have Mike living with us.

Mike is always happy to lend a helping hand and is constantly looking for ways to keep busy. Whether he's assisting our team or helping fellow residents, his kindness and willingness to support others never go unnoticed.

One of Mike's passions is DIY, and he has recently put his skills to great use by restoring one of our coffee tables and treating our garden furniture ready for the summer months ahead. His hard work has helped keep our home looking its best, and we are incredibly grateful for everything he does.

Thank you, Mike, for your enthusiasm, generosity, and community spirit—you are a valued member of our family. 😊

🐑 Spring is always a special time of year here, especially when Hilary, our Activities Co-ordinator, brings in some of the orphan lambs from her smallholding!

This year was no exception. Hilary invited Kellyanne, one of our seniors, along with her daughter Macey and grandson Kaden, to help with the visit. It was a wonderful afternoon enjoyed by everyone.

The lambs, who are bottle-fed, absolutely love being around people, usually because people mean it's milk time! They happily wandered around, greeting residents and visitors alike, soaking up all the attention and bringing plenty of smiles along the way.

A lovely afternoon filled with cuddles, laughter, and some very happy lambs! ❤️🐑

An update on Hilary’s hike for families living with dementia! 💙🥾☀️

Despite the very warm weather, Hilary enjoyed a lovely walk along the Taunton and Bridgwater Canal, accompanied by Bea, and joined for part of the journey by Mum and Val.

The canal provided plenty of welcome shade, alongside beautiful views and lots of wonderful wildlife to enjoy along the way. 🌿🦆

Every step taken is helping to raise awareness and support for families living with dementia, and we are so proud of Hilary’s continued dedication and determination throughout this incredible journey. 💙

Well done, Hilary — keep going, you are amazing! 👏✨
