After your baby is born, we routinely allow time before clamping the umbilical cord (usually 1-3 minutes), when it’s safe to do so.

Why optimal cord clamping is beneficial:
🔹Allows extra blood to pass from the placenta to your baby
🔹Boosts baby’s iron levels, helping prevent anaemia
🔹Supports better circulation and oxygen levels after birth
🔹Especially helpful for preterm babies

This extra time supports a gentle transition to life outside the womb and is part of normal, evidence-based care.

If you have questions or special preferences, your midwife will be happy to discuss them.
