👟 Back-to-School Shoe Check! 📚
Kids’ feet can grow surprisingly quickly over the summer, so August is the perfect time to check whether school shoes still fit properly.

Here are a few podiatrist-approved tips when buying school shoes:
✅ Measure both feet — one foot is often slightly bigger
✅ Check for a thumb’s width of space at the front✅ Make sure toes can wiggle comfortably
✅ Choose supportive soles with good grip
✅ Avoid shoes that are too flat
✅ Watch your child walk — shoes shouldn’t slip at the heel
✅Make sure to bring any insoles along when trying shoes on, to ensure they fit

Poorly fitting shoes can lead to blisters, foot pain, ingrown toenails, and even posture problems over time.
Healthy feet help kids stay active, comfortable, and confident all school year long 👣

Why It’s Important to Look After Cracked Heels
Cracked heels may seem like a small problem, but if left untreated they can become painful and even lead to infection. Keeping your heels healthy is an important part of overall foot care.
Why cracked heels shouldn’t be ignored:• Deep cracks can cause pain when walking• Bacteria can enter open skin and cause infection• Dry, thick skin can worsen over time without treatment
Simple ways to prevent cracked heels:✅ Moisturise your feet daily with a good foot cream✅ Avoid walking barefoot on hard surfaces✅ Wear supportive, closed-back footwear✅ Stay hydrated and care for your skin
Healthy feet help keep you active and comfortable every day.
📅 If your heels are painful or severely cracked, a podiatrist can safely remove hard skin and help restore your foot health.

“Just use a corn plaster.” ⚠️ Be careful!

Many corn plasters contain strong acids that can damage healthy skin, especially in people with:
* Diabetes
* Poor circulation
* Reduced sensation

Corns usually form because of pressure or friction — so unless the cause is addressed, they often come back.

At Fit Feet, we don’t just remove the corn — we look at why it developed in the first place.
Simply removing the hard skin may provide temporary relief, but if the underlying cause isn’t addressed, the corn will often return.
After safely removing the corn, we carry out an assessment to identify contributing factors such as footwear, foot shape, gait, pressure points, or biomechanics.
From there, we create a personalised treatment plan designed to reduce pressure, improve comfort, and help prevent the corn from coming back.
