Clare Spiers - Grief Recovery Specialist

Clare Spiers - Grief Recovery Specialist I work with individuals to bring relief and peace so that they can begin to come back to themselves and transform their lives. Chair of WCAVA

I discovered the Grief Recovery Method when I felt lost, confused and in a lot of pain. I recognised that I was experiencing deep grief and I wanted to find an alternative to therapy and counselling to help myself move beyond the pain. Whilst recent losses (redundancy and the sudden loss of a family member) bought me to Grief UK, I came to realise, as I was learning the Grief Recovery Method, that

I had a significant amount of unresolved grief as a result of a family suicide in my childhood. Whilst it was somewhat daunting to revisit my experiences, I knew this was where my true recovery would begin. It has helped me tremendously, I feel lighter, and independent studies have proven that it works. As a result, I also learnt that I felt deeply compelled, (that it is my purpose even), to help others move beyond their pain and trained as an Advanced Grief Recovery Specialist. Previous participants have also report having experienced recovery from physical illnesses as a result of completing the programme.

I used to think grief was something you got through.

Now I see it differently.

Grief becomes part of your story. It changes you. It deepens you. It teaches you what matters.

Some days I still miss the people I’ve lost. Some days I still wish things had been different.

I’ve also found a community, a purpose and a way to turn my own experiences into something that helps others feel less alone.

That feels like a gift.

💬 If you’re ready to meet your grief with kindness you’re not alone.

I can help you move beyond the pain of loss, unresolved grief and emotional isolation so you can find peace, reconnect with life and carry your loved one's memory without being overwhelmed by grief.

One of the reasons Fleabag resonated with so many people is because it showed grief in all its messy, complicated humanity.

Not the neat version where you cry, heal and move on.

The version where you laugh at the wrong moment. Push people away. Make mistakes. Feel guilt. Want to run away and be held at the same time.

Grief changes who we are and finding ourselves again can be a messy, beautiful process.

“Everyone should learn this.”

That’s what my clients say when they discover the tools of grief recovery.

We’re taught how to acquire things.
How to build a life.
How to plan for the future.

But we’re not taught what to do when we lose something we love.

When someone dies.
When a relationship ends.
When life doesn’t turn out how we imagined.

No wonder one of the most searched grief questions is:

“Am I grieving wrong?”

The answer is very likely no…

But how would you know?

Nobody teaches us what grief is, or how to navigate it.

The Grief Recovery Method helps you understand your grief and gives you practical tools to begin your recovery.

For those who have experienced a loss, it creates the space to explore what’s been left unresolved, express what needs to be expressed, and begin to find relief, peace and a sense of moving forward.

Because grief isn’t something we should just “get over”.

It’s something we deserve support with. ❤️

This Sunday, join us for our **Grief Walk & Talk**, Leamington💚

Grieving can feel incredibly isolating, like everyone else has moved on while you're still trying to make sense of your life after loss. Friends and family often want to help but unless they've experienced something similar, it can feel difficult to explain what you're going through.

That's why peer support matters.

Walking alongside others who *get it* can remind you that you're not alone. There’s no pressure to talk, no expectation to share your story and no timeline for your grief. Just fresh air, gentle conversation (if you want it) and the comfort of being with people who understand.

Whether your loss was recent or many years ago, you're welcome to join us.

📅 **This Sunday**
📍 Newbold Comyn, Leamington Spa (we meet directly outside the entrance to The Newbold Comyn Arms)
🚶 A gentle walk at your own pace
💚 Free to attend

The smallest step can make the biggest difference.

email me [email protected] or message me on here for all of the information you need.

“If I let go of the pain… does that mean it didn’t matter?”

This is something I hear from many people before they begin grief recovery work.

There can be a fear that letting go of the pain means letting go of the person, the relationship, the dream, or the life they lost.

But it doesn’t.

Letting go of pain is not the same as letting go of love.

It’s not about forgetting.
It’s not about pretending it didn’t happen.
It’s not about saying “I’m fine” when you’re not.

It’s about releasing the weight you’ve been carrying.

Because when we begin to process our grief, something starts to shift.

We create space to feel joy again.
We can concentrate more clearly.
We sleep better.
We have more energy to look after ourselves.
We start to reconnect with who we are.

This is what I see in my clients — and what I’ve experienced myself.

The loss is still part of their story.

But it no longer has to take up all the space.

Grief recovery isn’t about forgetting what mattered.

It’s about making room for life again. ❤️

“Why can’t I concentrate anymore?”

This is something I hear so often from people experiencing grief.

They tell me:
“I can’t focus like I used to.”
“I’m forgetting things.”
“I’m making mistakes I wouldn’t normally make.”
“My brain just feels foggy.”

Then comes the worry…

“Am I losing my ability?”
“Am I not coping?”
“What’s wrong with me?”

The answer is: nothing.

Grief affects the brain.

When we experience loss, our brain moves into a heightened state of stress. The areas involved in emotional processing and threat detection become more active, while the parts responsible for concentration, planning and decision-making can have less capacity available.

It’s not that you’re not trying hard enough.

Your brain is using energy to process something enormous.

This is why grief can feel exhausting. Why simple tasks can feel overwhelming. Why making decisions can suddenly feel harder.

The good news is that when we begin to process our grief and reduce the emotional load we’re carrying, we can create space for our brain to function differently.

More clarity.
More energy.
More ability to focus.
More space to feel like yourself again.

Grief isn’t just emotional.

It affects us physically, mentally and neurologically too.

Understanding this can be the first step towards being kinder to yourself. ❤️

Loss isn’t just about what happened.
It’s about what was taken away; the hopes, dreams and future you thought you were going to have.

When we think about grief, many people think about bereavement but grief can come from many different types of loss.

I work with clients who are navigating:
• Divorce and relationship breakdown
• Betrayal
• Family breakdown and estrangement
• Life-limiting health issues
• Career loss
• Pet loss
• Infertility
• Loss of childhood
• Unresolved losses from the past
• Bereavement

Many of my clients come to me because they feel stuck because something still feels unresolved or because they want a different approach beyond simply talking about what happened.

Through a structured 7-session Grief Recovery Programme, I teach you practical tools to help you work through unresolved loss and move towards greater peace and relief.

Because we are taught how to acquire things in life but we are rarely taught what to do when we lose them.

If you’re carrying a loss that has changed your life, I’d love to help you explore what recovery could look like.
