Nursing was all I knew. Then I couldn’t do it anymore.

A health condition made the job impossible. I could have taken a lighter role. But healing had become the whole task, and critical care doesn’t take half of you.

The leaving wasn’t the hard part.

The hard part was the silence after. What now? I believed I had no skills for anything else.

I was wrong.

The fight to rebuild my own health became the thing that pulled me forward. Nutrition. Hormones. Metabolism. I retrained. I turned the obsession into a profession.

Now I help women, especially over 40, look after their health before the body forces the issue. Because I know what it costs when it does.

This is Chapter I of Knowing Lily, the woman behind LSN.

kinda chic to go from nurse to founder with no roadmap.

15 years in nursing, then I left to bet on myself and learn the business from scratch. Some days I’m the scientist, the founder and the whole team. Still figuring it out, on purpose.

If you’re waiting to feel ready before you start, ready is a myth. Start anyway.

You probably don’t have a cortisol problem.
You may have a sleep problem.
A fuelling problem.
A recovery problem.
You may be perimenopausal, and that alone explains a great deal of it.

But the internet has decided cortisol is the villain, and there’s a powder waiting for you at the end of every video.

Here’s what’s actually true.
The morning rise is normal. Hard training raises it, transiently, and that’s adaptation, not damage.

“Cortisol face” isn’t a medical term.
And if you’re over 45, perimenopause is diagnosed on symptoms, not a hormone blood test.

What moves the needle is unglamorous.
Eating enough, because restriction is itself a physiological stressor.
Strength training.
Sleep timing.
Less alcohol in the evening.

And here’s the part nobody says out loud. This trend targets women with genuine symptoms who’ve spent years being dismissed.
When someone finally says “I believe you”, that’s worth £££ of anyone’s money.

Being believed is what she’s actually buying.
The powder is incidental.

Real support starts with an assessment, not a checkout.

Save this for the next time a video tells you your face is a symptom.

Registered nutritionist, MSc. ICU nurse before that. Science, not fear.

Training more
Going backwards?

During perimenopause, the old rules no longer work.
Cut food, Train fasted, and your body reads it as one more stress
So it holds on tighter and gives you less.
The fix is closer to the opposite: eat more, lift heavier, protect muscle.

New here, or never met me properly?
I’m Lily

I spent 15 years in clinical nursing, from intensive care and beyond, before retraining in nutrition.
That is not a fun fact. It is the whole reason I work the way I do.

No generic meal plans
No wellness fluff
Clinical nutrition for women in perimenopause and menopause and for organisations who want to keep their most experienced women instead of watching them quietly leave.

Science first, always.

Thank you for being here, and nice to meet you.

Menopause is not a wellbeing tick box.
It is a performance issue and retention issue, and it is quietly costing organisations their most experienced women.
Awareness training got people talking
It did not keep them
Clinical, measured intervention does.

By Spring 2027, large UK employers must publish a menopause action plan.
Most being written now will not move a single symptom.

I help organisations build one that does.

A quick update on where to find me.

My work has sharpened. I now specialise in perimenopause, menopause and performance nutrition, helping women over 40 protect their metabolism, energy and sharpness, and helping organisations keep the women losing both.

The real conversations happen on LinkedIn and Instagram (), and everything I offer lives at lilysamuelsnutrition.com.

If you're navigating this transition and want science rather than wellness trends, come and find me there.

Up to 80% of women experience symptoms during perimenopause and menopause.

Yet many are still trying to manage brain fog, disrupted sleep, fatigue, mood changes, cravings and weight changes with generic advice that does not reflect what is happening hormonally or metabolically.

Hormone Breakthrough™ was created to help you understand your body, support your hormones, improve energy and feel more like yourself again.

This is a 4-week online nutrition programme for women in midlife.

Live sessions: Thursdays, 7:30–8:30pm UK time
Applications are now open. Spaces are limited.
