❤️ “We refuse to put our lives on hold waiting for the future.”

Tom was just 27 when, after around seven months of abdominal pain, an ultrasound revealed tumours on his liver and something on his pancreas.

Further investigations confirmed stage 4, well-differentiated grade 2 pancreatic neuroendocrine cancer (pNET) with metastatic disease in his liver.

In our latest patient story, Tom's partner, Mary, shares what followed – from suddenly having to learn a whole new language of scans, biopsies, Ki-67 scores, and treatments, to navigating cancer as a young family with their little boy, Ronnie.

A year on, Tom is taking Everolimus and has disease stability. Their lives have had to change, but Mary and Tom are determined that cancer won't stop them from living them.

They've adapted their working lives, learnt to communicate through difficult days, made memories as a family, and used social media to raise awareness and support other people – particularly young people affected by cancer.

Mary writes:

💬 “We still have difficult days, ‘scanxiety’ and worries about what the future may bring, but we also laugh, make plans, go on holidays, watch Ronnie grow and enjoy our life together.”
