Our groundbreaking Alzheimer’s trial is making national headlines.

Today, the PrevenTRON study at Surrey and Borders Partnership is the main story on the front page of The Daily Telegraph, alongside coverage from BBC News and the Daily Mail.
Surrey and Borders Partnership NHS Foundation Trust is the first site in Europe, and only the third in the world, to offer adults the opportunity to take part in the phase III PrevenTRON study.
The study will investigate whether the new drug Trontinemab can delay or prevent Alzheimer’s disease in people at high risk – before memory and thinking problems begin.
Professor Ramin Nilforooshan, Consultant Psychiatrist and Chief Investigator for PrevenTRON, said: “Being the first site across Europe and the third in the world to open PrevenTRON is a proud moment for our Research and Development team and for the communities we serve.”
Around 1,600 people aged 55 to 80 will take part worldwide, and as the lead UK recruitment site, we can recruit people from anywhere in the country.

Your experience can help shape our services

We have two opportunities for people with lived experience, carers and family members to get involved and help us improve our services through co-production.

🏥 Help assess our hospital environments
Join our Patient-Led Assessments of the Care Environment (PLACE) this October and help assess areas including privacy and dignity, cleanliness, food, accessibility and how well our hospital environments support the people who use them.

💬 Help shape crisis support
If you have experience of our crisis services, Safe Havens or inpatient services within the past two years – or have supported someone who has – you can join our co-production focus group and help explore how crisis support and people's journeys through services could work better.

Your experiences and perspectives can help us understand what works well, where things could improve and how our services can better meet people's needs.

People with learning disabilities are helping our Community Team for People with Learning Disabilities (CTPLD) East to develop a new sensory ‘Box of Tricks’ that will support people during appointments.

As part of this co-production project, colleagues have been visiting local day centres to hear directly from people with learning disabilities about what would be most useful to them.

One idea was a Box of Tricks filled with sensory items. To help decide what should go inside, colleagues set up activities representing each of the five senses, giving people the opportunity to explore different items and share their preferences using verbal communication or symbols.

Their feedback will now directly shape the Box of Tricks, helping to ensure it reflects the choices and needs of the people who will use it.

A good example of how working together and listening to lived experience can help us develop more accessible and person-centred support.

In a month's time, we and Age UK Surrey are running a special Finance and Legal event in Leatherhead. It's on 22 September at 1pm and, as part of our Planning for your Future campaign, it's absolutely FREE.

The event will delve deeper into issues around paying for care in later life. And it will include talks from experts from the Society of Later Life Advisers and the Association of Lifetime Lawyers.

Nine out of ten attendees at our regular events tell us they'd recommend them to others. But some have said they'd appreciate further help with financial and legal aspects. So this session will specifically cover:

• options around paying for care
• what to watch out for in private care contracts
• Lasting Powers of Attorney
• Deputyships
•...and more!
