🩷 One of my clients told me today “I am enjoying food again”.⁣

🩷 As it’s dietitian week, I thought I would share a recent client experience…⁣

🩷 I had a final consultation with a client this morning, and reflecting on where she started compared to where she is now was incredibly rewarding.⁣
When we first started working together, she was struggling with:⁣
• Low energy levels⁣
• Constipation⁣
• Feeling guilt around food⁣
• A difficult relationship with eating⁣
• Navigating the challenges of menopause⁣

🩷 Today she shared that:⁣
- Her bowels are more regular⁣
- Her energy levels have improved⁣
- She no longer feels guilty around food⁣
- She’s enjoying food again⁣

🩷 For me, the most important outcome isn’t just improved digestion or more energy, it’s seeing someone regain trust in their body and find enjoyment in eating again.⁣
So often, women are told that feeling tired, uncomfortable, and disconnected from food is simply part of menopause. It doesn’t have to be.⁣
Small, sustainable changes can create meaningful improvements in how you feel, function, and live.⁣

🩷 This is why I love what I do! ⁣

☕️ Coffee first thing…what’s the deal?⁣

The short answer: it depends…⁣

Cortisol is naturally higher in the morning, but there isn’t strong evidence that drinking coffee soon after waking is harmful.⁣

Caffeine does contribute to increased cortisol secretion but this response is lower in people who consume caffeine on a daily basis.⁣

For some people, delaying coffee by 60-90 minutes may be helpful if:⁣
🖤 You feel jittery or anxious after your morning coffee⁣
🖤 You rely on multiple coffees to get through the day⁣
🖤 If you experience adverse gastrointestinal symptoms⁣
🖤 You experience energy crashes later in the morning⁣

For many people, especially those who enjoy their morning routine and don’t experience negative effects, having coffee shortly after waking is absolutely fine.⁣

What matters more is:⁣
☕️ Whether it’s affecting your sleep⁣
☕️ How dependant you are on caffeine⁣ the whole day
☕️ What your diet looks like alongside your coffee intake! ⁣

As with all nutrition advice, there is no one-size-fits-all approach.⁣
Your morning coffee doesn’t need to be feared!⁣

🖤 For me, I LOVE my morning coffee for the flavour, the boost, and the beneficial effect on my bowel movements. In fact, I think it lowers my cortisol 🤣⁣

Do you drink coffee as soon as you wake up?

🏃🏻‍♀️As a perimenopausal runner - recovery isn’t just about sleep and nutrition. It’s also about appreciating what your body has achieved and celebrating it.⁣

🇿🇦 My Cape Town marathon run wasn’t fast and it wasn’t pretty - it was sweaty, sweary, and spectacular!⁣
OH MY GOODNESS, what a privilege to be a part of that epic event.⁣

💪🏻 Do you have any physical challenge goals that you have set yourself?⁣

🩵 Are you on a GLP1 weight loss medication and perimenopausal?⁣

💉 When you start the medication, you will probably notice reduced appetite, stabilised blood sugar levels and reduced food noise.⁣
Make the most of this time to make positive sustainable habits!⁣

Small sustainable habits always beat extreme dieting in perimenopause 💚

💛 On Mounjaro or Wegovy?⁣

Fibre is one of the most underrated tools for anyone on weight loss medication. It helps with fullness, helps to control blood sugar levels, and is great for your gut health- but most people still fall short! ⁣

The good news? It might be easier to hit your goals than you think. More mindful choices at each meal can get you to 30g a day. Check the post for simple ways to make it happen.⁣ If you would like tips on maintaining weight loss after weight loss medications, head to the link in my bio for my free guide “Sustainable Success- a practical guide to lasting weight loss beyond medication” 💛
