Solent View Medical Practice

Solent View Medical Practice Patient-focused GP Practice providing exceptional healthcare and diverse services. www.solentviewmedicalpractice.co.uk

The present partnership came into existence in July 1993 when a larger group practice based at Stubbington and Lee-on-the-Solent divided into two separate practices. Originally the practice area covered the three villages of Stubbington, Hill Head and Lee-on-the-Solent, but as the population of Lee has grown significantly in recent years the practice area has now been changed to include Lee reside

nts only. Former patients living in Hill Head and Stubbington have remained with the practice but no further new patients will be taken on from these areas for the foreseeable future. The practice population continues to steadily increase as a result of local building developments. Lee-on-Solent Health centre was purpose built in 1983 and extended in 2003 to accommodate the partners in our neighbouring practice.

Have you ever tried to access mental health support and felt lost in the system? 🧩❀️

"A Piece of Me" is a relaxed, creative workshop inviting patients, staff, community groups, and local services to come together and share their experiences of mental health support in Gosport.

Together, we’ll explore what works, what gets in the way, and what support could look like when digital access and human connection work better together.

🎨 Do I need to be artistic?
Absolutely not! You can join in by talking, doodling, writing, listening, or quietly adding your thoughts. Your ideas will help build a shared jigsaw artwork showing the missing pieces in current support and what a more connected future could look like.

Come along, share your piece of the story, and help shape a more human approach to mental health support in our community. 🌟

Date: 18th June

Worried about how much screen time is too much for your child? You’re not alone πŸ’™

New UK guidance helps parents and carers build healthy screen habits for children under 5 in a simple, realistic way πŸ‘

For younger children:
β€’ Under 2s – avoid screen time where possible, except for shared activities like video calls or looking at photos together
β€’ Ages 2–5 – aim for no more than 1 hour a day, and less if possible ⏱️

It’s not just about time, but how screens are used. Choosing slow-paced, age-appropriate content and watching together can support learning and development πŸ“Ί

Too much screen time can take away from the things that matter most at this age, like sleep, play, and time spent talking with parents and carers 🧸

Try setting simple boundaries like no screens at mealtimes or before bed, and swap screen time for activities like reading, playing, or chatting together πŸ“š

Enjoying the sunshine? Make sure you’re protecting your skin properly β˜€οΈ

Sunscreen is important, but it shouldn’t be your only line of defence. Wearing suitable clothing, spending time in the shade, and avoiding the sun when it’s strongest (11am–3pm) can all help reduce your risk of sunburn and long-term skin damage 🌀️

When choosing sunscreen, look for:
β€’ SPF 30 or higher to protect against UVB rays
β€’ At least 4-star UVA protection or a UVA symbol in a circle
β€’ Broad-spectrum protection covering both UVA and UVB β˜€οΈ

Don’t forget to apply sunscreen generously about 20–30 minutes before going outside and reapply every 2 hours, especially after swimming or sweating πŸ’§

Even water-resistant sunscreen needs reapplying, as water and towels can remove it more easily than you think 🌊
