If I Don’t Need a Scan, How Can Physiotherapy Help?

Not every episode of back pain needs an X-ray or MRI — but that doesn't mean you have to manage it on your own.

A physiotherapy assessment can help us understand your symptoms, movement, strength, daily activities and goals, and use this information to develop a personalised plan for your recovery.

Depending on your needs, treatment may include:

Manual therapy
Exercise therapy
Education & self-management advice
Acupuncture
Electrotherapy
Postural & movement advice
Gradual return to normal activity

Our goal isn't simply to treat your pain. It's to help you understand your condition, build confidence in your body, improve your function and get back to the things that matter to you.

At RehabWell 360 Physiotherapy & Healthcare, we believe rehabilitation works best when we work with you, not just on you.

🤝 Let us be your trusted health & rehabilitation partner.

Do I Need a Scan for Back Pain?

If you've developed back pain, you might naturally wonder whether you need an X-ray or MRI to find out what's wrong.

The good news is that most people with common lower back pain do not need a routine scan.

A scan can show changes in the spine that are also commonly found in people without pain. This means that what appears on a scan does not always explain why you're experiencing pain.

Instead, a thorough clinical assessment can help look at your symptoms, movement, strength, function and daily activities to understand your individual situation and guide appropriate treatment.

Imaging may be considered when there are signs of a more serious underlying condition, or when the results are likely to change how your condition is managed.

Your pain is real, even when a scan isn't needed. Understanding the person behind the symptoms is an important part of effective rehabilitation.

At RehabWell 360 Physiotherapy & Healthcare, we take an individualised approach to assessment and rehabilitation, helping you understand your symptoms and work towards improving movement and function.

Whiplash: Common Symptoms & Presentation

Whiplash doesn't always look the same from one person to another.

Neck pain and stiffness are common, but some people may also experience headaches, shoulder or upper back discomfort, dizziness, altered sensation, fatigue, or difficulty concentrating.

Symptoms can develop immediately after the injury or gradually over the following hours or days, and their severity and duration can vary.

Everyone is different. Two people can experience a similar injury but have very different symptoms and recovery journeys.

Understanding the full range of symptoms can help you recognise when you may benefit from a professional assessment.

At RehabWell 360 Physiotherapy & Healthcare, we take an individualised approach to assessment and rehabilitation, considering your symptoms, movement, daily activities and recovery goals.

After whiplash, it’s common to think that the problem is simply tight or damaged neck muscles. However, whiplash can involve several parts of the body, including the joints, muscles and nervous system.

These systems work closely together to control movement and how we experience pain. Changes in one area can sometimes influence how the others function, which may help explain why people can experience very different symptoms after a similar injury.

Everyone is different. The severity of the injury, symptoms, recovery and response to treatment can vary from person to person. Understanding your individual symptoms is an important part of planning the right approach to recovery.

At RehabWell 360 Physiotherapy & Healthcare, we take an individualised approach to assessment and rehabilitation, helping you understand your symptoms and work towards restoring movement and function.

Whiplash is more than just a "stiff neck" after an accident.

It can happen when the head and neck are suddenly and forcefully moved backwards and forwards, commonly following a road traffic accident, sudden impact, sports injury, fall, or other unexpected jolt.

Symptoms can sometimes appear immediately, but they may also develop gradually over the following hours or days.

Whiplash can affect more than just the muscles around your neck — it may also involve the joints, movement control, and nervous system.

In this series, we'll take a closer look at what happens after a whiplash injury, common symptoms, and how physiotherapy can support recovery.

What is a Disc Herniation?

A disc herniation, often referred to as a "slipped disc", is a common spinal condition that can cause back pain, sciatica, numbness, tingling, or muscle weakness. However, not every disc herniation causes symptoms, and many people recover successfully without surgery.

The good news is that physiotherapy is often the first-line treatment. Through a thorough assessment and a personalised rehabilitation programme, physiotherapy can help reduce pain, improve movement, restore strength, and support your return to everyday activities.

At RehabWell 360 Physiotherapy & Healthcare, we provide evidence-based treatment tailored to your individual needs, using a combination of manual therapy, exercise therapy, acupuncture, electrotherapy, and education to help you achieve long-term recovery.

If you're experiencing persistent back pain or symptoms of sciatica, don't ignore it. Early assessment and appropriate treatment can make a significant difference to your recovery.

‼️Pain on the outside of your elbow? Struggling with gripping, lifting, gym exercises, or everyday tasks?

You may be experiencing tennis elbow (lateral epicondylitis) — a common tendon condition caused by repetitive loading and overuse of the forearm muscles.

In this video, we demonstrate 2 exercise therapy techniques commonly used in physiotherapy rehabilitation for tennis elbow. Exercise therapy, particularly eccentric loading exercises, has good evidence supporting its role in improving:
✅ Pain
✅ Grip strength
✅ Tendon load tolerance
✅ Overall function

Tendon rehabilitation is not about “pushing through pain” or lifting heavy weights too early — it’s about gradual, controlled loading to help the tendon adapt and recover over time.

At our clinic, exercise therapy is tailored to the individual and often combined with:
Manual therapy
Acupuncture
Electrotherapy
Load management and movement advice

Our aim is not only to reduce symptoms, but also to address the underlying cause and reduce the risk of recurrence.

All treatment plans are carried out by UK-registered physiotherapists and individualised to your needs.

📍 Clinic-based physiotherapy
🏠 Home visit service available
💳 We accept health insurance and cash plans (Aviva, WPA, VitalityHealth and more)

📩 Get in touch to arrange an assessment and start your recovery journey.

‼️Struggling with pain on the outside of your elbow?

You may be experiencing tennis elbow (lateral epicondylitis) — a common condition caused by overuse of the forearm muscles, often leading to pain, weakness, and difficulty with everyday tasks like gripping or lifting.

At our clinic, we use acupuncture as part of a tailored physiotherapy treatment plan to help:
• Reduce pain
• Relax tight muscles
• Improve local circulation
• Support the healing process

Acupuncture is not used in isolation — it is combined with:
Manual therapy
Targeted rehabilitation exercises
Load management and movement advice
Electrotherapy where appropriate

Our goal is to address both the symptoms and the root cause, helping you recover effectively and reduce the risk of recurrence.

All treatments are carried out by UK-registered physiotherapists, with plans tailored to your individual needs.

If you’re dealing with persistent elbow pain or arm discomfort, we’re here to help.
