Think of what happens when we support any part of our body for an extended period of time (neck brace or broken arm cast for example)

When we support our feet with stiff shoes and orthotics in the long term the joints, muscles and connective tissues don’t need to work as they are designed to and can weaken

Exposing our feet to work through being barefoot or in minimalist shoes increases foot muscle strength
