This month we are shining a spotlight on each of our UK partners who are working to develop the Community Tourism UK network.

Based in York, Good Organisation Social Ventures CIC was founded in 2018, with a big ambition; to make tourism fairer, more inclusive and genuinely beneficial for everyone who calls York home. Rather than accepting tourism as something that simply ‘happens' to a city, the organisation works to reshape it, so that local people, especially those often left out, have a meaningful stake in it.

To achieve its mission, it has developed a number of creative and experimental approaches to participation, primarily supporting those affected by homelessness, substance addiction or individuals with experience of the criminal justice system, to run walking tours, and to collaboratively create guide books, GPS tour guide apps, publish postcards, print t-shirts and to develop museum exhibitions and public art installations.

As a small organisation, its impact reaches far beyond its size. With a network of volunteers, academic partners and community advisors, Good Organisation is helping to build a different vision of tourism, one that values dignity, inclusion and shared benefit. It shows that even in a city shaped by centuries of history, there is still room to rethink its future.

June has been a busy month! The rain stopped us from doing much gardening, so we caught up on other jobs. We've been busy making planters and benches in Chopshed and enjoyed a very hot and sunny trip to Eden Camp.
