We believe dementia awareness should not be limited to care professionals 💙

That's why Bluebird Care Leeds North and Bluebird Care Harrogate invited local families, carers, businesses and members of the wider community to take part in the Virtual Dementia Experience completely free of charge.

The experience gave people a powerful insight into how dementia can affect communication, confidence and everyday life.

One family member told us it was emotional to gain even a temporary understanding of what her mum may be experiencing. She left with greater compassion, practical techniques and the reassurance that she was not alone.

Deputy Mayor Councillor Chrissie Holmes also took part, alongside a representative from Dementia Forward and members of the local community.

After the public sessions, our own Care Experts continued with more in depth dementia training throughout the afternoon.

Because better dementia care starts with understanding 🧠

It means protecting dignity, adapting communication, supporting independence and looking beyond behaviour to understand what someone may be trying to tell us.

It also means supporting the whole family 🤝
