Sarah Demaree's workshop explores what happens when we start to disturb that peace. What are the real risks of speaking up, for our clients and for us? What keeps secrecy in place — in families, in groups, in organisations — and what might become possible when it is gently, carefully named?

Part of what makes this workshop distinctive is its honesty about the practitioner side of the equation. We are invited to examine our personal beliefs and experiences around breaking silence, and to notice how those might be shaping our capacity for openness and authenticity in the room.

Dates for the Northside Training TA101 in Leeds are: 11 & 12 July (this weekend), 10 & 11 October 2026 and 17 & 18 April 2027. See link below for full details and booking.

Most CPD gives you ideas. Good ones, sometimes. But you go home with notes, not a credential.

The TA101 is different. Two days, and you leave with an internationally recognised qualification in Transactional Analysis - a framework for understanding how people communicate, why they act the way they do, and where relationships get stuck.

It's used by therapists, but also by coaches, educators, managers - anyone whose work depends on understanding what's really going on between people.

Recognised in over 70 countries and has been for decades.

Andy Williams TSTA(P) is running it this weekend - Sat 11th and Sun 12th July, in person in North West Leeds. £215.

You're in a meeting that has been challenging. Walking out, you say to a colleague: "That was rough."
They reply: "You should be used to them by now."

Does this feel familiar? Nothing about that response was unkind. But something in you bristles anyway - and you can't quite put your finger on why that should be.

In transactional analysis terms, this is a crossed transaction. You spoke from a place that just wanted acknowledgement - straightforward, adult to adult. The reply landed somewhere else, more like a comment on your character than a response to what you said. Something jars.

This kind of friction isn't always about the content of what's said. It's about which part of us is doing the talking, and which part the other person hears.

Have you had a moment in the last few weeks where a conversation suddenly felt off?
What were you actually asking for - and what did you get back instead?

Our blog 'How Transactional Analysis Can Help With Effectiveness at Work' explains more about how TA can help understand what is going on beneath the surface and some tips on what to do next.

Saying the right thing is no guarantee you'll get the reaction you expected. Transactional Analysis is a model for understanding why, and it does it in a way that's refreshingly easy to get your head around.

The two-day TA101 covers the core ideas that practitioners, coaches and organisations build their work on. It's not just theory, either - you'll be trying these ideas out on situations that participants relate to, each in their own way. You'll learn the key concepts, but what tends to stay with people is something else: seeing both themselves and others differently by the end of it.

Whether you're exploring a career move, wanting insight on relationships, or just curious where this might take you, expect a few of those moments where things make a lot more sense.

TA101 - the official introduction course to TA - also the starting point if you are wanting to take it further.
11 & 12 July, North West Leeds, £215.

You know that moment when you get a glimpse of what is going on beneath a perfectly ordinary conversation and then it slips away. It could be the hidden meaning in the words themselves, or the tone that grates slightly, or your own response to the conversation.

Transactional Analysis is a model that can help us notice and understand the underlying threads to conversations, our reactions, our history all add into the mix that can make a normal conversation be something else.

Its a model of communication and human relating that is used in therapy, organisations and a whole range of other settings. The good thing is that its concepts are accessible for anyone and can give us insight into personal lives as well as work situations.

The TA101 is a 2 day introduction covering the key areas - ego states, transactions, life positions, scripts, games - but the focus throughout is applying to real life and real people by asking questions like 'Where does this show up in your own conversations, your own reactions, your own history?'

It's also, for some people, the start of something longer. The TA101 is the internationally recognised entry point if you ever want to go further with TA, whether that's more CPD with us down the line or the first step toward fuller training elsewhere.

The next course is on 11 & 12 July, North West Leeds. Full details via link in the first comment.

Andy Williams brings nearly four decades of clinical experience into his training sessions.
He's an accomplished Teaching and Supervising Transactional Analyst and Counsellor. He's developed his version of the TA101 over many years and with many groups of participants. Aside from the standard content elements that everyone covers, one of the key areas he focuses on is are its relevance - how can we see this being relevant in our lives, our work, our selves?

Those joining the course explore the core concepts of ego states, transactions, life positions, scripts and more but Andy will also, with warmth, humour and insight, guide them to the important question: 'So what now?'
