Painful interdigital corn (heloma molle) 👣

This patient presented with a soft corn between the toes caused by chronic pressure and friction from adjacent toe bones rubbing together. Excess moisture in the interdigital space often keeps the lesion soft, while underlying toe deformities, tight footwear, and abnormal biomechanics can increase pressure and lead to recurrent pain.

In this treatment, careful debridement was performed to reduce the thickened hyperkeratotic tissue, followed by enucleation of the corn to remove the central core responsible for the intense focal discomfort. Immediate pressure relief is often felt once the nucleus is removed.

Treatment goals:
✔️ Reduce pain and pressure
✔️ Remove devitalised keratin build-up
✔️ Improve comfort when walking
✔️ Prevent recurrence through pressure offloading and footwear advice

Long-term management may include:
• Wider footwear
• Toe spacers or silicone orthoses
• Regular podiatry care
• Addressing underlying digital deformities where necessary

Early intervention can prevent corns becoming increasingly painful and recurrent.
