In school vital preparations are underway to help children get ready for their next school year. While some children welcome change with curiosity and excitement, for others it can bring a sense of unrest.

Join me for this block of 3 sessions where we will unpick some of what might be happening as children navigate new experiences.

These sessions are suitable for ALL children regardless of how they experience the mini topic.

Sessions equip children will essential tools they can use throughout their life generating healthy habits from their earliest moments. Fun joyful yoga, yoga circuits, mindful moments, age appropriate texts, relaxation

Tonight we talked about where worry showed up in our bodies and we coloured it in where we could feel it.

Hot face, sweaty palms, rapid heart beat...

The more we recognise the signs and try name the feeling, the more likely we are able to manage it.

Some brave yoga warriors, cute worry buddy making and a gentle relaxation to end the session.

A class that is not only great for physical and emotional wellbeing, but that offers practical life skills that extend way beyond what is taught in the session.

1 more worry warriors left before the next block of 4 that focuses on changes and transition.

1.FREEZE DANCE

The fun game that's secretly building self control that you can include more of in your child's day (high impact, low in resources!)

Play music /sing, when it stops, FREEZE.
Add in silly dances or movements or freeze in different shapes for added fun.
*Develops inhibitory control and attention & focus.

2. RED LIGHT, GREEN LIGHT

A popular one in children's PE for developing self regulation and attention & focus. When red light /card shows children must stop. Green is go.
Add in yellow for get ready, or any other colours you like. Children must anticipate signals, change speed and directions.
Can be cars or animals moving for added creativity.

3. KIM'S GAME

I have no idea why this is named after Kim, but it's a great one due developing that all important working memory. Have objects on a tray, then take one away. Have child guess which one is missing.
Tip - go through and name the objects first to ensure children are familiar with names of them it's often useful to have objects that go together, e.g food items or wheeled toys. Add more objects as you go. No more than 8!

4.OPPOSITES

The game that trains your brain and gets it working twice as hard!
Give children commands such as, "touch your toes, sit down, jump high"
Discuss the opposite of these actions, and then call out again. Children must do the opposite.

Children then love doing it to their adults +and seeing them get in a muddle!)
Tip - Best suited to 4+ Ensure children know opposites before playing

5. LEGO/DUPLO CHALLENGE

Take 5 /10 bricks. How many different combinations of structure can you make with the bricks?
Or make something with the bricks. Can child re create it. You could make it even trickier by showing them it for 10 seconds, and asking them to re create it. This activity strengthens working memory and essential problem solving skills.
