Keep saying you’ll come next week?
There is no next week…..

Turns out quite a few people thought the first image was me. 😂 It wasn’t. It was an AI illustration of scorpion pincha. If I could do that, you’d have heard about it weeks ago!!!!! But I love that some of you thought I’d be anywhere near that bendy of a back!

I was 12 when I was told that “men don’t make passes at girls who wear glasses.”

I’d just got my first pair.

It was said as though this was a problem. As though adult male attention was something a girl should want. Something she might lose by looking the wrong way.
But I was 12.
A child

And every day, girls who wear glasses are sexually abused by adult men.
The glasses don’t keep them safe.

Neither do their clothes, how they look, how they behave, or whether they fit some arbitrary idea of what makes a girl attractive.

And yet we still tell girls, directly and indirectly, that being desirable to men is something they should worry about.

At twelve.

I tried this Pincha entry once six months ago. I couldn’t do it.

It looked fairly simple. It wasn’t. I got lightheaded, decided it was much harder than it looked and then promptly forgot about it.

Until one of my students sent me the video last night and asked if I could do it.

So I tried.

First attempt: lightheaded again.
Second attempt: nailed it. Camera wasn’t recording.
By the third attempt I’d had enough, but I’d committed to getting the bloody video.

And I did!

No six-month training plan. No practising it every day.

Just a reminder that your yoga practice can change even when you’re not specifically working on something.

Pincha Mayurasana is hard. This entry, for me, was harder than it looked. Humbling!

And honestly, that’s what I love about yoga. There’s always another weirdly specific thing to get better at.

I’m a yoga teacher in my 40s and I’m still chasing the hard stuff.

Splits. Handstand. Flying lizard. Scorpion pincha. All the things that make me think, “Why am I doing this?”

Some poses have taken me years. Some still aren’t happening.

But I’m not really interested in just getting into a shape anymore.

I want to understand what I’m missing. And then I’ve t to share it with you.

More strength? More mobility? Better technique?

Probably all of the above.

And I think that’s what I’m enjoying about yoga in my 40s. I still want to do the hard things and the. I want to teach you.
So that’s what I’m working on and sharing here. Yoga over 40, getting stronger, improving mobility and figuring out how the hell to do some of these poses so we can all do the fancy pants stuff.

One of the messages I get quite often is:

“I wish I could come to one of your classes, but I live too far away.”

If that’s you, this is your chance.

Every Wednesday I’ll be teaching my live online Vinyasa yoga class on Zoom, streamed live from my class in Leeds. So whether you’re in Spain, the US, or anywhere else, you can join in.

My classes are suitable for all levels, but I do like to challenge people. I’ll always offer options, but I won’t have you lying on a mat for an hour. We move, we build strength, we work on mobility, we break postures down so they make sense, and yes, we also make time for relaxation and savasana. They’re just as much a part of the class as everything else.

🗓 Wednesdays, 10–11am (UK time)
💻 Live on Zoom
💷 £8

Book through the link in my bio. Once you’ve booked, I’ll send you the Zoom link.

I’d love to finally meet some of you who’ve been following along from afar.
