📍 What a fantastic day at the West Yorkshire Compassionate Cultures Conference at Elland Road! 💚

The Public Health Resource Centre team had an amazing time connecting with colleagues from across the workforce, sharing resources, and promoting health and wellbeing.

There were plenty of laughs throughout the day as people got involved with our interactive activities – including the ever-popular beer goggles and target mat🎯👓🍻

We were delighted to meet so many passionate professionals and are thrilled to have signed up lots of lovely new members to the Public Health Resource Centre. Our new members can now access our wide range of evidence-based resources, health information, and support to help improve health and wellbeing across their workplaces and communities.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by our stand, had a chat, took part in our activities, and shared in the fun. We look forward to supporting you on your public health journey!

Want to know more about... improving the health of learning disabled and autistic adults
Thursday 2 July 2026, 11am to midday

Creating a healthy lifestyle isn't just about physical fitness; it’s about empowerment, autonomy, and finding joy in wellbeing. For learning disabled and autistic adults, navigating health and wellbeing can often come with unique barriers such as sensory processing differences, navigating complex healthcare systems and inaccessible information.

At this webinar we will be discussing the barriers many people face, and practical ways we can all work together to make healthy living more accessible for everyone.

- insights from the food and nutrition workshop
- insights from delivering health and wellbeing sessions for learning disabled and autistic adults
- the importance of individualised interventions
- the involvement of the individual’s circle of support
- wellbeing duty: the need to support healthy choices
- This online session will be delivered by:

Emma Strachan, Health Improvement Specialist (Food and Nutrition), Leeds City Council Public Health team and Al Mayes, Healthy Lifestyles Project Manager, People in Action

🤝 Refugee Week: Supporting Inclusion Across Our Workforce and Communities 🫱🏻‍🫲🏾

Refugee Week is an opportunity for colleagues across Leeds City Council and our partner organisations to come together to celebrate the contributions, creativity and resilience of refugees and people seeking sanctuary. As a workforce, many of us will work directly or indirectly with individuals and families who are new to Leeds. This week is a chance to reflect on how we can create more welcoming, inclusive environments — both in our workplaces and in the communities we support.

👉 Get involved 👈

Whether you’re working with children and young people, planning to host an event, or simply want to show your support, there are lots of ways to take part:

Use Refugee Week as an opportunity to start conversations and raise awareness within your team or service
Share key messages and positive stories on your internal channels or social media
Incorporate Refugee Week themes into your work with residents, service users or community groups
Explore ideas for activities, events and engagement

👉 Explore the Refugee Week resource packs for ideas and guidance:

These resources are designed to be practical and adaptable, helping you feel confident in promoting inclusion, celebrating diversity and engaging the communities you work with.

Supporting people new to Leeds

Alongside this, we encourage all colleagues to be aware of the “New to Leeds” guide, a helpful resource for migrants moving to Leeds from abroad.

This guide can support you in your role by helping you to:

Signpost individuals and families to local services
Support access to health and wellbeing services
Help people better understand how to navigate life in Leeds
Provide consistent, reliable information to those who may need it most

Being familiar with this resource means you can offer practical support in everyday interactions and help people feel more confident and connected in their new city.

Making a difference together

Small actions — from sharing information to creating welcoming spaces — can have a lasting impact. By using the tools and resources available, we can continue to build a city where everyone feels included, supported and able to thrive.

Men’s Health Week: Supporting Our Workforce in Leeds Communities
This Men’s Health Week, we’re encouraging colleagues across Leeds City Council and partner organisations to focus on men’s health — supporting your own wellbeing and using your role to make a difference in the communities we serve.
Men are less likely to seek help for physical and mental health concerns, which can affect outcomes. As a workforce, you play a vital role in changing this by promoting positive wellbeing and supporting the men and boys you work with every day.
👨🏿‍🦱 Looking after yourself
👨🏻 Taking care of your own health helps you support others more effectively:
👨🏻‍🦰 Stay active, even a short walk during the day
👨🏽‍🦱 Make time to talk with colleagues, friends or family
👨🏽‍🦰 Check in on your mental wellbeing and seek support if needed
👨 Keep up with routine health checks and don’t ignore symptoms

Supporting Leeds communities through your role by building awareness and confidence, you can:

🔠 Start conversations about men’s health in a natural, supportive way
😃 Signpost men and boys to local services and support
🫶🏻 Encourage early help-seeking and help reduce stigma
♥️ Embed health and wellbeing into everyday interactions with residents

Together, we can improve men’s health across Leeds
Small actions — a conversation, sharing resources, or checking in — can have a big impact. By supporting yourselves and those you work with, you can help create healthier, more open communities across Leeds.
✅ Mental health & wellbeing
✅ Healthy eating
✅ Physical activity
✅ Long-term conditions
✅ Prostate cancer awareness

Order your resources from the PHRC today as part of your membership.
