Acne isn’t just a skin problem.

If you’re new here, I wanted to give you a little look behind the scenes and share a bit more about what I do… and why this work is so personal to me.

I’ve experienced acne myself, so I know the emotional toll it takes on you, and feeling like every “solution” leaves you with a bigger problem.

That’s why my approach is different.

I look at acne from a root-cause perspective - using functional medicine, advanced testing, and personalised supplementation to understand the bigger picture.

We look at the microbiome, deficiencies, and hormones, because your skin doesn’t exist in isolation, and your approach shouldn’t be one-size-fits-all.

For me, this clinic is about creating a space where you feel heard, understood and supported, while we work together to understand your skin and what it may be trying to tell you for a real long term solution for clear skin.

🎥 So, come inside and have a little look around.

Before you buy that £40 supplement, read this 💊

They’re everywhere - Holland & Barrett, Amazon, your local supermarket…

But do you know what you’re taking and why?

Here are some common mistakes I see in my clinic, and what you can do instead 🧠

Save this for later, and share with someone who needs to see this!

Things that are worth the £

Would you agree? 👀 what have I missed from my list?

I’ve worked with people whose acne looked IDENTICAL on the surface, but the reasons behind it were completely different.

💊For one person, the biggest clue was coming off hormonal contraception.
🩸For another, it was insulin resistance.
🧠For someone else, it was stress disrupting ovulation.

The skin looked similar: inflamed jawline and cheeks… but the story didn’t.

That’s why I never assume the cause based on where your acne appears.

I start by asking:
When did it begin?
What ratios and levels in your hormone panel are suboptimal?
What other symptoms are happening alongside it?
Tell me about your 💩
Do you have any intolerances or deficiencies?

Because the breakout tells me where to look… but story helps me understand which hormonal pathway looking for. This is how you tackle “hormonal” acne long-term.

Hormonal acne isn’t always about blood sugar levels and testosterone… there, I said it 🤭

For most, it’s about how well your body is at clearing hormones. Specifically oestrogen, the female hormone.

Breast tenderness, bloating, period poos, and raging acne in the week before your period aren’t coincidental… they link to a much bigger picture.

Your ovaries, liver, brain, and gut are all a part of a much larger system… and the skin takes the fall for it.

My client experienced persistent redness, sensitivity, and painful nodules - and she was given one option… Accutane. We still have a long way to go with scarring, but honestly the process we’ve made, she NEVER thought her skin could look like this.

This is where functional testing changes the game completely. You need to look at your skin from a wider lens, it’s asking for help and you need to help it.

If you’re lost with your skin, constantly experiencing new breakouts no matter what products you use, currently on lymecycline, have PCOS or endo, and you can’t see the light at the end of the tunnel… let’s talk.

We need to investigate deeper🩸

One of the biggest misconceptions I see is that people treat “gut health” as though it’s a single problem with a single solution 🧩

It usually starts innocently enough. Someone reads that the gut and skin are connected, buys a probiotic, takes it consistently for a few months and waits for their acne to improve…💊

When nothing changes, they assume one of two things: either probiotics don’t work, or the gut had nothing to do with their skin in the first place.

In reality, it’s often neither.

“Supporting your gut” can mean very different things depending on what’s actually happening. One person might be dealing with bloating after every meal, another has noticed changes in bowel urgency or constipation, while someone else has no digestive symptoms at all but may have patterns suggestive of microbial dysbiosis.🦠

Those are very different conversations, and they don’t all point towards the same intervention. This is why I rarely recommend supplements based on a symptom.

I’m much more interested in understanding the bigger picture.

When did your skin change?
Have your digestion or bowel habits changed alongside it?
Was there a course of antibiotics, an illness, a period of chronic stress or another event that came before the breakout?

Those pieces of information don’t always provide the answer, but they often give us somewhere meaningful to start.

The goal isn’t to convince yourself that your gut is the cause of your acne… it’s to understand whether it’s part of the conversation, because understanding comes before intervention.🧩

When my acne came back earlier this year, I genuinely felt like everything I’d worked so hard for was slipping away.

That might sound dramatic to some, but if you’ve struggled with acne, you’ll probably understand exactly what I mean.

As an award winning acne specialist, and the face of my own brand, I felt like I should have the answers. Instead, I found myself feeling exactly how so many of my patients do: frustrated, self-conscious and desperately trying to work out why.

On paper, I was doing everything “right”. I was eating well, exercising, getting my steps in and looking after myself☑️

But alongside the breakouts came bloating, inconsistent bowel movements, brain fog and weight gain. Looking back, the timeline told a different story.

I’d been under a huge amount of stress building derm360º, working 70+ hours per week, juggling my personal life, and trying to prioritise my wellbeing at the same time.

Then I developed gastroenteritis during a trip to India that lingered for over a month, followed by two courses of antibiotics 🦠

Rather than assuming my skin was “just breaking out”, I did what I encourage my patients to do.

I investigated. I wanted to understand the bigger picture before deciding what to do next. That experience reminded me that the best clinicians don’t jump to conclusions, they stay curious. They keep asking “why?”

And that’s exactly how I approach acne in clinic. Ask yourself, “What changed before your skin changed?”

Your skin isn’t random. It’s often responding to patterns your body has been trying to tell you all along.
