My proudest find!
Meet my 26th Great Grandfather.
Soer De Quincy, 1st Earl of Wi******er.
Born around 1155 to parents Robert De Quincy and Orabilis Eve.
His mother was the step daughter of David 1st of Scotland and his father was Baron of Prestoungrange.
Soer's own rise to prominence in England came partly from his marriage to Margaret, the younger sister of Robert De Beaumont, 4th Earl of Leicester.
After the death of his brother in law, Soer was made Earl of Wi******er.
Soer gained a close personal relationship with his 2nd cousin, Robert Fitzwater and together they served as co-commanders of the garrison at the major fortress of Vaudreuil in Normandy., surrendering to the French which caused them both huge embarrassment.
It wasnt until 1215, when the Baronial Rebellion broke out and Robert became the military commander, when Soer joined him acting as one of the chief authors of Magna Carter and negotiators with John. Both Soer and Robert were among the 25 guarantors of Magna Carter.
His name is mentioned in Clause 61.
Both Soer and Robert travelled to France to invite Prince Louis to take the English throne.
Soer died in 1219 while in Damietta, Egypt.
He is buried in Acre, the capital of the Kingdom of Jerusalem and his heart was brought back to England and interred at Garendon Abbey near Loughborough.
