This is a 90 minute walk around the nature reserve - this walk can include steep hills and it can be wet and boggy underfoot.

Breathe Before You Begin

A busy week can start before your feet have even hit the floor. This Monday, begin with something you already carry everywhere: your breath.

Slow breathing can help your body move out of high alert and give your mind a little more space before the emails, traffic and responsibilities arrive.

For men who are used to pushing through stress, pausing can feel unproductive. It isn’t. Think of it as resetting your system before you ask more from it. One calm minute will not solve everything, but it can change how you meet the next thing.

And if you would like some support - why not join us for our Breathwork session this evening as part of our Wellness for Winter programme. Just use the link below to register.

Our first Wellness for Winter session is happening THIS MONDAY and there is still time to secure your place.

We're kicking off the series with Breathwork, led by Chris Wimshurst of Bearwolf.

We'll be exploring simple breathing techniques that you can take away and use to help slow things down, manage feelings of stress and tension, reset and refocus.

FREE to attend for men aged 18 and over in Leighton Buzzard & the surrounding area.

Men Are Less Likely to Seek Therapy...

Men are less likely to access therapy services, even when experiencing similar mental health challenges.

Barriers include stigma, discomfort with talking, and beliefs about self-reliance.

But therapy builds coping skills, emotional awareness, and resilience.

Join us for a refreshing morning of walking and talking at the stunning Totternhoe Knolls - Sunday 20th September.

This is an ideal opportunity to meet like minded men, talk and take in the stunning views as we embark on a scenic walk together. It's a fantastic chance to socialise, get some exercise for the body and mind, and enjoy the beautiful surroundings.

This walk is for men aged 18 and over with a moderate level of fitness. We will meet at the car park off Castle Hill Road at 9.30am. We will undertake a 90 minute walk around the nature reserve. We grade this walk as difficulty 2 - Moderate, because of the steep hills at the location and also because it can be wet and boggy underfoot. Please wear sturdy footwear (such as walking boots) and weather appropriate clothing.

"Walk & Talk for MENtal Health Leighton Buzzard" is not a counselling service, but we do provide peer support and can often signpost people to get additional help and support if required.

Take Back Your Focus...

Constant notifications and scrolling can leave your brain overstimulated and exhausted.

Taking short breaks from screens improves concentration, stress levels, and sleep quality.

Not everything needs your attention immediately. Protect your focus, it affects your mental wellbeing more than you think.

Exercise: this week, spend 30 minutes away from your phone and social media.

Putting the FUN into fundraising! 🎶

The team at The Grove Lock, Leighton Buzzard certainly know how to put the fun into fundraising!

Last weekend saw Rock the Locks – two fantastic days of live entertainment, great food and plenty of community spirit. And amongst all the fun, the team were also helping to raise funds and awareness for Walk & Talk for MENtal Health, with our collection tins out across the weekend. 💚

Every pound raised helps us continue creating opportunities for men to get together, connect, talk and support their mental and physical wellbeing – but just as importantly, events like this help get our name and message in front of people who might need us.

So, a HUGE thank you to everyone at The Grove Lock including the lovely Heidi who put us forward, all those involved in Rock the Locks, the team at The Bottle House and everyone who popped something into one of our collection tins.

We absolutely love seeing local businesses and communities getting behind what we do. 💚

Spending time outdoors reduces stress hormones and improves mood and concentration.

Research shows even short periods in nature can positively affect mental wellbeing.

A walk outside isn’t “doing nothing.”
It’s recovery for your mind.

Introducing Wellness for Winter ❄️

Winter can be tough. The nights draw in. We spend more time indoors. We get out less, see people less and sometimes the things we know help us feel better become that little bit harder to do.

So this year, we’re doing something a little different with our monthly Talk & Talk sessions.

From September to December, we’re bringing you Wellness for Winter – four FREE sessions giving men the chance to try different tools and experiences that could help support their wellbeing through the winter months.

And we’ve got a brilliant line-up:

14 September – Breathwork with Chris
12 October – Sound Bath with Fi
9 November – Pilates with Pablo
14 December – Your Winter Wellbeing Toolkit

Each event runs from 7pm - 9pm and will be at Leighton Town FC. You can come to one, two, three or all four. Pick the ones that spark your interest – or use Wellness for Winter as an excuse to try something you would never normally consider.

Never tried breathwork? Don't really know what a sound bath is? Think Pilates isn't your thing?

Come and give it a go.

Because looking after ourselves doesn't always have to mean making huge changes. Sometimes it's about discovering a few more tools, finding out what works for you and having somewhere to connect with others along the way.
