Menteath Award Winning Smoke Infused Artisan Skincare & Scent

16/09/2026

NOCTURNE ☾ One last night in the garden.

After our first gathering on 5 September, we’re opening The Woodshed once more for the final NOCTURNE of Artwave.

☾ SATURDAY 19 SEPTEMBER | BN8 5TB

From 12–5PM, come and spend the afternoon in the garden with sound baths, wellbeing sessions and treatments with & me, alongside Savino’s olive oil tastings, the exhibition and Menteath Skincare.

Then from 6PM, the fires are lit and the garden begins to change.

For this final evening, special guest chef will be serving food for Foodwave, celebrating food, landscape and gathering as part of the very first year of the festival.

Naomie at returns with the horsebox bar, and we’ll gather amongst the light, smoke, scent and sound as the sun disappears.

At around 7:15PM, we’ll screen Beautifully Damaged beneath the changing sky.

A film created by Menteath × Adrian Peckitt, with music by artist and composer Nava Kazemi.

This one feels particularly special because NOCTURNE is part of both Artwave and the first ever Foodwave — something I’m incredibly proud to support and be part of the core team.

Food has been woven into both our events as part of the experience. A celebration of food, landscape, making and gathering.

☾ MEET THE COMPOSER — NAVA KAZEMI

Behind the sound of Beautifully Damaged, our film created by Menteath × Adrian Peckitt, is emerging musician, composer and producer Nava Kazemi.

Nava’s practice is almost entirely her own making. She writes, plays and records the vocals, synths, keys, guitar, violin and percussion herself, before producing, mixing and mastering the final work.

There is something beautifully fitting about that process for this film — layers being made, pulled apart, distorted, repeated and brought back together.

Her influences move between the hypnotic minimalism of Philip Glass, the experimentation of Frank Zappa, the electronic worlds of Aphex Twin and the weight and complexity of Tool.

For Beautifully Damaged, Nava’s music became part of the landscape of the film itself — moving through ideas of control, consumption, perfection and repair, and the marks we leave on ourselves and the world around us.

Where does the smoke in Menteath come from? 🜂

It begins with a tree.

At the heart of almost every Menteath formula is a dark, resinous extraction from the juniper tree. Its scent is unmistakable — intensely smoky, earthy and woody, with the depth of resin and charred timber. It is this material that gives Menteath its distinctive thread of smoke.

But I was interested in it for more than its scent. The resinous extraction from juniper has been the subject of scientific research exploring antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial activity. That combination — this extraordinary smoky material and the science behind it — was what interested me when I began developing Menteath.

But there is one exception.

For Loch Blossom Facial Cleanser, I wanted to explore smoke differently. I turned to heavily peated whisky from Perthshire, a landscape connected to my own family heritage.

Before it ever became part of the formula, I spent an enormous amount of time researching and experimenting with whisky in skincare, testing how it behaved within the formulation and across different skin types. It wasn’t about adding whisky for novelty. I wanted to understand what it could actually bring to the skin, while capturing that extraordinary peated character — smoke, earth, wood and warmth.

And there is fascinating science behind whisky too. Research into matured whisky has identified naturally occurring phenolic compounds, including ellagic and gallic acids, with studies demonstrating antioxidant and free-radical-scavenging activity associated with its phenolic content and maturation in oak.

So when we talk about smoke at Menteath, it isn’t simply a scent we’ve created to smell like a fire.

It comes from the materials themselves.

Juniper. Resin. Peat. Whisky. Fire.

One of my favourite parts of NOCTURNE was watching the garden become a place to stop for a while. To sit, breathe, touch, listen and simply be.

We’re doing it all again for our second and final Artwave date on Saturday 19 September.

Throughout the day we’ll have small group wellbeing sessions in the garden, alongside seated massage — which I can now personally confirm is glorious.

Adrian Peckitt’s photography will be exhibited throughout the day and through to the night, before we move into the evening and screen Beautifully Damaged, our first Menteath film in partnership with the amazing Adrian Peckitt , as the light begins to fade.

Come for an hour or stay for the day. Wander through the art, join a session, have a massage, sit in the garden and stay for the film.
