Dementia can make the discharge process a little bit more complicated for patients😟

Over the course of our project and hospital visits at Royal Preston Hospital and Chorley & South Ribble Hospital, we have heard how discharge could be more comfortable for patients with dementia🏥

This includes:
- relatives needing to be with the patients when being spoken with about discharge
- relatives' involvement in the process
- clear messaging to patients with dementia

🚨LOCAL GOVERNMENT UPDATE:

I'm glad the Government have today PAUSED to review the announced Local Government Reorganisation of Lancashire.

I wasn't happy with the deal we got and make no secret of that, not least because it meant putting Burnley in with Blackburn.

I'll be using this review to push again for the 5 Unitary Model and a more financially sustainable council model for Burnley, Padiham and Brierfield. Burnley Council have led on this, and while we may all be different parties, we've spoken together.

This all means though that the elections to the new authority won't be held in 2027 now, but in 2028, when we'll also hopefully elect Lancashire's first Mayor - and get all the money and power over our own destiny that comes with.

Our next Dementia Hub is being held on Wednesday the 16th September between 10.30 and 12.30 at St Laurence's Church (Union Street, Chorley, PR7 1EB). This is a mix of information hub (with Chorley Dementia Action Group members often in attendance) and peer support and social activity led for us by our partner Age UK Lancashire.

As part of our Hospital Discharge project, Emmy and John visited Chorley and South Ribble Hospital on Monday, talking to patients who were about to be discharged🏥

Patients spoke positively about communication and realistic time frames for their return home.

We also heard some comments around transport and medication, which were delaying patients being discharged earlier.
