Gone from barely moving to daily long walks or a couch-to-5K? Good on you.

But your feet have gone from near-still to steady miles in a matter of days, and that ache along your heel or arch is worth listening to.

The soreness isn't proof it's working.

Most of the time it's your feet flagging that the ramp was too steep, too fast.

Plantar fasciitis and lower limb strain rarely come out of nowhere, they build quietly while you push through.

Slower increases, decent footwear, and a look at how you're walking make a real difference.

If the ache keeps showing up, a biomechanical assessment tells us what your feet are actually coping with.

Ramping up your steps lately? Tell us how your feet are holding up.

Tony’s Saturday Thought 👣

Did you miss me? 😊 And can you guess where I’ve been?

I’ve been away enjoying a proper breather — and having a little detox from social media too.

My posts are all out of sync… even my Sunday thought has turned up on a Saturday! 😂

So, a little guessing game for you: which city was I in? There’s quite a big clue behind me! 👀 Bonus points if you can name the building.

I’m always encouraging patients to look after themselves. This time, I took my own advice and put the phone away to enjoy the moment … after a quick photo, of course!

I’m back, refreshed, and looking forward to catching up with you all.

When did you last give yourself permission to switch off?

Would you visit this place to recharge — or choose somewhere else? A quiet beach, the countryside, or a peaceful few days at home?

Tell me your guess — and your ideal place to switch off. 👇

👣 **HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN SAYING, "I'LL GET MY FEET SORTED SOON"?**

🎄 We're now 11 weeks away from Christmas!

Last Friday, I mentioned how much walking our feet will do between now and Christmas Day ... This week, I want to talk about something I hear quite often in the clinic.

"Tony, I've had this for ages. I just kept putting it off."

Sometimes it's a painful corn. Sometimes it's a heel that's uncomfortable first thing in the morning. Other times, it's a troublesome toenail.

And very often, patients have simply learnt to put up with it.

I understand. Life gets busy. Work, family and everything else always seem to come first.

But here's something I've learnt over my years in practice.

**Just because you've learnt to live with foot discomfort doesn't mean you should have to.**

With 11 weeks until Christmas, there's still time to have that niggle assessed rather than carrying it through the festive season.

So here's my thought for this Friday.

Don't keep putting yourself at the bottom of the list.

Your feet deserve a little attention too. 👣

A bunion doesn't fix itself, but it doesn't mean surgery is your only option either.

Once that joint starts to lean, the pressure builds where the shoe rubs and the ache settles in for the day.

Here's what we actually do about it.

We start with a biomechanical assessment to see how you load the foot when you walk.

Custom orthotics, scanned and made to your foot, share the load off that joint.

We go through your footwear and show you lacing techniques that stop the shoe pressing on the bunion.

And Foot Mobilisation Techniques work on the joint to keep it moving.

None of that reverses a bunion.

What it does is slow the progression and ease the day-to-day discomfort, which for a lot of people is exactly what they wanted to know.

Caught it early? Even better.

That's when we can do the most.

Got a bunion that's started to ache? Send us a message and ask.

It doesn't hurt much at first, so you have a go at it yourself.

A dig at the corner, a curved cut to get rid of the bit that's catching, a dab of something from the chemist.

And for a week or two it feels better.

Then it comes back, usually worse.

Cutting a nail curved leaves a spike of nail that grows straight into the skin.

Digging at a corner breaks the skin and lets bacteria in.

Over-the-counter drops soften the callus but never touch what caused it.

Proper nail trimming and callus removal deals with the actual cause, not just the sore bit you can see.

Same toe, calm again, and it stays that way.

If a corner keeps catching or a callus keeps building back up, that's your sign to let someone look at it properly.

Are you a drawer-fixer? Tell us honestly.

👣 HAVE YOU THOUGHT ABOUT HOW FAR YOUR FEET WILL CARRY YOU BEFORE CHRISTMAS?

Believe it or not, today we’re exactly 12 weeks away from Christmas Day. 🎄

It feels a long way off.

But between now and then, your feet have got quite a workload ahead of them — work, family life, days out, travelling, standing, walking and, before we know it, Christmas shopping.

One thing I’ve learnt after many years looking after people’s feet is that we tend to notice them most when they start hurting.

And that little problem that’s manageable in October can feel very different after weeks of extra walking.

So rather than rushing Christmas, I’m going to do something slightly different this year.

Every Friday between now and Christmas, I’ll share one simple thought about looking after your feet through the weeks ahead.

No Christmas tree just yet. We’ve got plenty of time for that! 😄

For now, enjoy the autumn and give those feet a little thought.

We’ve got 12 weeks of walking to go. 👣

Two feet, two very different arches.

One holds its shape, one has dropped flat.

That gap isn't just about how your feet look.

When an arch collapses, the load has to go somewhere.

It runs up through the ankle, the knee, the hip, and often lands in your lower back.

So the ache you've been blaming on your desk chair or your run might start much further down.

It doesn't hurt at first, so you ignore it.

That's how most of these problems build.

A gait analysis and biomechanical assessment lets us see how you actually load your feet, and whether custom orthotics or foot mobilisation would take the strain off the chain.

If you've had knee, hip or back aches that won't settle, it's worth looking at the feet holding you up.

Have you ever had your arches assessed?

If you're managing diabetes, your feet need looking at regularly, not just when something starts to hurt.

That's the whole problem with feet.

It doesn't hurt, so you ignore it, and that's how most foot problems start.

Reduced feeling in the feet means a small callus, a broken bit of skin, or an ingrowing nail can go unnoticed for weeks.

Cutting corns or trimming nails yourself at home carries more risk when circulation and sensation aren't what they were.

A routine podiatry check keeps callus and nail care done safely, and it means we spot the little things early, before they escalate.

Regular visits are the boring, quiet kind of care.

No drama.

That's exactly the point.

When did you last have your feet checked?

You slip your foot out of the sandal under the table, and there it is again.

That itch between your toes.

The little bit of peeling skin you keep telling yourself is nothing.

It's usually athlete's foot.

A fungal infection that lives in warm, sweaty spots between the toes, and it doesn't clear up on its own.

Left alone it spreads, sometimes to the other foot, sometimes to the nails, which are far harder to treat.

It doesn't hurt much, so most people ignore it.

That's exactly how it takes hold.

The good news is it's common and very treatable once you actually deal with it rather than hoping it settles.

If that itch has been hanging around for weeks, come and get it looked at properly.

Been ignoring yours? Be honest.

🎉 THE CELEBRITY FEET REVEALED!

The famous feet belong to…

🎬 JULIANNE MOORE!

The acclaimed actress won the Academy Award for Best Actress for Still Alice and has appeared in films including Boogie Nights, The Hours and The Hunger Games series.

Well done if you guessed correctly! 👏

We chose this photograph because it demonstrates something I often say in clinic: a shoe can be beautiful without being particularly kind to your feet.

Her toes appear crowded and sit very close to the edge of those towering platforms. We cannot judge someone’s foot health from one photograph, but we can comment on what the footwear appears to be doing—and this pair doesn’t leave much room for error.

Enjoy your glamorous shoes occasionally if you wish, but make sure they fit properly, feel stable and don’t leave your feet paying the price afterwards.

Did you guess Julianne Moore—and which clue gave it away?
