How to treat hammertoes

If you can still manually straighten your bent toe, conservative at-home and clinical treatments are the first line of defence:

* Footwear Modifications: Avoid tight, narrow, or pointed shoes, as well as high heels that shift body weight forward. Switch to shoes with a wide, deep toe box and supportive soles.
* Orthotics and Insoles: Over-the-counter or custom orthotic inserts help stabilize the foot, prevent it from flattening excessively, and rebalance the pull on the tendons.

Please see a Podiatrist or Foot Health Practitioner for more support 👣

How to prevent corns and calluses?!

Choose the Right Footwear

* Wide toe box: Pick shoes with enough room for your toes to move without rubbing against the sides or each other.
* Good fit: Avoid shoes that pinch or slip loosely. As stated by the NHS, you should “wear cushioned socks, wide supportive shoes, and use insoles.”
* Limit high heels: High heels push your weight forward and jam your toes into a narrow space, creating intense pressure.

Hope this helps 🤗👣

Summer foot care tips 🌞👣

Keep your feet clean and dry, apply broad-spectrum SPF 30 sunscreen to the tops and soles, wear supportive and breathable shoes instead of flat flip-flops, and avoid walking barefoot on hot pavements or in public pool areas to prevent burns, blisters, and fungal infections. 💃🏻👣

How to prevent ingrown toenails!

Proper Trimming Technique
* Use large, straight-edged toenail clippers, never small curved fingernail clippers.
* Clip straight across the top horizontally.
* Leave roughly 2 mm of the white nail tip showing.
* Do not cut down into the corners or sides.
* File rough edges lightly without tapering the outer edges.
* Trim nails while dry to prevent tearing soft, wet nails.

Footwear Adjustments
* Select shoes with a spacious, wide toe box.
* Avoid narrow, tightly pointed, or high-heeled styles.
* Ensure a finger-width gap exists between your longest toe and the shoe tip.
* Buy athletic shoes half a size larger to allow for natural swelling.
* Wear loose socks or stockings that allow your toes to wiggle freely.

Habits and Daily Maintenance
* Keep feet thoroughly clean and fully dry to protect fragile skin.
* Change out of sweaty footwear quickly to avoid softening the skin barrier.
* Never pick, pull, or rip at the edges of your toenails.
* Wear steel-toed boots or protective gear during heavy lifting or yard work.

Safe Cleaning

* Leave earwax alone: Ears clean themselves naturally through chewing and jaw movement.
* Wash outer part only: Use a warm, damp cloth on the outside of your ear and the outer opening.
* No cotton buds: Never stick Q-tips or small objects into the ear canal because they push wax deeper and can hurt the eardrum

To stop and clear athlete’s foot, apply an over-the-counter antifungal cream, spray, or powder (such as terbinafine or clotrimazole) daily for two to four weeks. Keep your feet clean and completely dry, especially between your toes, and continue treatment for two weeks after symptoms clear to prevent the infection from returning.

Daily Foot Hygiene
* Wash your feet every day with soap and warm water.
* Dry your feet thoroughly, paying close attention to the spaces between your toes. Dab gently instead of rubbing.
* Change your socks every day, or more often if your feet get sweaty. Choose cotton or wool socks instead of synthetic materials.

Shoe and Environment Care
* Wear breathable shoes made of natural materials like leather, and avoid tight plastic or synthetic footwear.
* Rotate your shoes and let them dry out for at least 24 hours between wears.
* Wear sandals in public showers, locker rooms, and around public pools.
* Do not share towels, socks, or shoes with other people.

You can prevent bunions primarily by wearing properly fitting footwear, maintaining strong foot mechanics, and using supportive orthotic devices to reduce pressure on your big toe joint. While genetics play a significant role in your foot structure, taking proactive steps can stop bunions from forming or halt their progression.
