This morning I felt completely validated in everything I believe about how transformation actually works.
I’ve been working with a client for 18 months. We started with weekly sessions — intensive, deep, necessary. Then fortnightly. Then monthly.
This morning she asked if we could move to every two months.
And I want to tell you why that made me so happy.
Because she’s not leaving. She’s not done. She just doesn’t need me in the same way anymore.
She has the tools, the self-awareness, and the strategies to navigate most of what life throws at her independently now. But she still wants that space in the diary — a maintenance session, less frequent, just knowing it’s there.
And she knows that if something comes up before then — she can call me. Book in. That reassurance alone changes everything.
What she said she can’t do without is having someone who knows her story. Someone to help her reframe when she needs it. Someone in her corner — even if only every two months now.
And then she said something I’ll carry with me for a long time.
She reflected on the woman she was when we first started working together.
And she said:
“It feels like a different life.”
We also talked about why this experience felt different to other therapy she’d had.
And she said something really honest.
It wasn’t just about the practitioner.
It was about her.
She came to this work in a midlife headspace — knowing she wanted her life to change and willing to actually put the work in. That readiness made all the difference.
And I think that’s worth saying out loud.
Because transformation isn’t something that happens to you. It happens when you’re ready for it. When something inside you says — not just I need this to be different, but I am willing to do what it takes to make it different.
If you’re in that place right now — that’s everything.
That’s where it starts.
If you’re ready — I’m here.
