Last night was a reminder of why physical mediumship and paranormal evenings should always be facilitated by someone with the knowledge and experience to manage whatever may arise.
During the evening, one of our regular attendees became extremely exhausted and needed some time to recover. After chatting with them, it became clear they had experienced a particularly stressful day, hadn’t eaten properly, hadn’t had much to drink, and had very little sleep beforehand. It’s a reminder that these factors alone can have a significant impact on how someone feels during an evening like this.
The session was gently brought to a close, they were grounded, given a drink and something sweet, and allowed the time they needed to recover. I checked in with them again this morning, and although they’re still feeling tired, they kindly replied to let me know they were okay. They apologised for what had happened, but there was absolutely no need to apologise. Their wellbeing was, and always will be, the priority.
I’d like to use this as an opportunity to remind everyone that not every experience during these evenings is necessarily caused by spirit or the energy of the room. Stress, fatigue, dehydration, low blood sugar, anxiety, or simply sitting quietly in a heightened state of awareness can all affect the body.
This is why I always ask people to stay well hydrated and have snacks, ( paranormal nights are the perfect excuse to eat chocolate ) and to let me know if they’re not feeling their best before we begin or during the evening. As a facilitator, my priority is always your safety and wellbeing. Remaining calm, knowing when to stop the session, and supporting those who need it are all part of creating a safe and responsible environment.
These evenings can be incredibly powerful and meaningful, but they should always be approached with respect, common sense, and experienced guidance. Your wellbeing will always come first.
Moments like this reinforce why I believe physical mediumship and paranormal evenings should always be led by someone with the experience to recognise when a participant needs support, when to bring a session to a close, and how to respond calmly and responsibly. While many events are run safely, it’s always worth asking about the facilitator’s experience and how they manage participant wellbeing, because your safety should always come first.
A special thank you also goes to the two very experienced ladies who were sitting opposite. They noticed the atmosphere and energy in front of them change and were an incredible support throughout. Having experienced people in the room who remain calm, observant and understanding is invaluable, and I’m truly grateful for their presence last night.
