If youve got a spiky profile and learnt to hide it
did it turn into internalised ableism?

If I wanted to make an entire society turn against itself, here's how I'd do it

Does ability cancel out disability?

When something that was previously hidden, punished, stigmatised or simply not recognised becomes safer and easier to identify, of course the numbers go up.

We saw it with lefthandedness. We’ve seen it as it became safer to openly identify as gay.

That doesn’t mean there was suddenly an explosion of lefthanded or gay people. It means people who were already there became visible.

So yes, autism and adhd diagnoses may rise rapidly as we get better at recognising people we historically missed. And eventually, as that previously missed population gets identified, we would expect that rise to slow and level out.

More diagnoses doesn’t automatically mean more autism. Sometimes it means fewer people being missed.

what are your first three signs of autistic burnout, would you know them? And do you have strategies to support them?

I think we talk more about adhd attention differences but not enough on autistic attention differences and how much it affects

Things autistic people do that can look completely different from the outside.Which would you add?

The terror of skill regression in autistic burnout/neurological collapse

18/08/2026

we need to stop calling it autistic burnout.
Autistic burnout is neurological collapse.
There is proven co morbidities and links thats increase if we are autistic. and it minimises the true impacts of it.

Processing is totally different to comprehension.
I think we can all have a tendency to hear something that confirms what we already believe and run with it. Me included. That was nearly exactly what I did with this research.

And just to be clear, me getting the question wrong isn’t evidence that the research is wrong either. It was simply what made me curious about everything happening between the question and the final answer that a test like this might not be able to see.

I still think there’s something really important here worth exploring around autistic processing, but research can’t always capture the individualness of lived experience. Maybe this is the therapist in me, but sometimes I think one of our most valuable sources of information is simply believing people when they tell us what it feels like to be them.
