I realised it’s been long while since I last posted here. To be honest life has been taken up as it says here in the ‘small and simple’ daily life of being a mum to two small kids, nursing and making time for myself and hubby. Nothing fancy but life is good. I hope to post more exciting updates here soon as there a few things in the pipeline. Hope you’re all well. 🙂 #2024

Really enjoying using narrative therapy with some of my clients at the moment.
Helping individuals to change their story and how the speak about issues can be so powerful. Reminded more and more how much power is in our words.

So as I turned 39 last week I’ve decided in the last year of my 30s this will be my focus. Aiming to see progress and not perfection in my life. As a mum, a wife, friend, counsellor and in all the other different roles I have.

When I aim for perfection i am constantly disappointed that i miss the ‘mark’. Does anyone else put themselves under this sort of pressure? I am learning more and more to focus on progress, what I’ve done well that day, week or month instead of my failings.

We are beautifully, imperfect humans who need to give ourselves space and freedom to try and fail.

Now to repeat this daily!! 😂

I read this paragraph from Matt Haig’s ‘The comfort book’ today and it felt like a good reminder to me. I’ve always been one for having a goal and pushing myself but recently I have been trying to be kinder to myself. Trying to allow myself to do things that make me happy even if they achieve no productive outcome. To do what my kids do so naturally and take time to play. There’s nothing wrong with aiming for a better job, a healthier body etc but actually isn’t it good to know that dogs love you whether you’re rich and famous or not. And that the sky will always be beautiful whether you have a great complexion or not. Just some Tuesday ponderings 😂

Being a mum of toddlers really does throw perfectionism out the window doesn’t it! I notoriously love a neat notebook/planner but my little boy thought it was missing his art skills this morning.

Sand between my toes....

Today my 4pm client cancelled. I had an unexpected hour of free, childcare provided time. Pretty unheard of.

And my first thought... how many jobs can i get done in that time.

How often do we fill our time with jobs, errands, etc instead of taking time for ourselves.

So in this hour I chose to go to the beach and sit with my feet in the sand. It was a choice and not an easy one to make and I did grapple with the guilt of not 'doing' for a bit.

Then I decided to practice what I've been working on with clients. To prioritise myself. That I'm worth more than a few more ticks on a 'to do' list.

The jobs will have to wait till tomorrow... or more likely a few days after that 😂
