🌿 HAIR HEALTH & TRADITIONAL CHINESE MEDICINE (TCM) 🌿

At Ashi Therapies, we look beyond the hair itself to understand the root cause of hair concerns.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, the hair is closely connected to the Kidneys, which store our vital essence (Jing) and play a key role in growth, ageing, and hair vitality. The hair is also nourished by the Blood and influenced by the health of the Liver, Spleen, and other organ systems.

✨ Different hair concerns can reflect different internal imbalances:

🔹 Excessive Dandruff
Often associated with Dampness, Heat, or Wind affecting the scalp, leading to flaking, itching, and irritation.

🔹 Hair Thinning
May be linked to Kidney Essence deficiency or Blood deficiency, reducing nourishment to the hair follicles.

🔹 Premature Greying
Traditionally associated with a decline in Kidney Essence or Blood deficiency, causing loss of natural hair pigmentation.

🔹 Hair Breakage
Often reflects insufficient Blood and Yin to nourish and strengthen the hair shaft, leaving it weak and brittle.

🔹 Sudden Hair Fall
Can occur when stress causes Liver Qi stagnation, disrupting the normal nourishment and growth cycle of the hair.

🔹 Dry, Dull Hair
Frequently associated with Blood deficiency or Yin deficiency, resulting in poor moisture and nourishment reaching the hair.

🌱 How Can Acupuncture Help?

Acupuncture aims to address the underlying imbalance rather than simply treating the symptom. Treatment can help by:

✔️ Supporting Kidney function and Essence according to TCM principles
✔️ Improving Blood circulation to nourish the scalp and hair follicles
✔️ Reducing stress and promoting relaxation
✔️ Regulating hormonal and energetic imbalances
✔️ Clearing excess Heat and Dampness affecting the scalp
✔️ Supporting overall health and wellbeing, which contributes to healthier hair

Every person is unique, which is why TCM treatments are tailored to the individual and their specific pattern of imbalance.

✨ Healthy hair starts from within

🩶 It is Summer right? 🩶

Despite it being June and Summer (allegedly), it’s been pretty damp, cold and miserable lately 🩶

I’ve previously posted about the importance of keeping your feet warm and not standing barefoot on freezing tiled floors, but I just wanted to remind you 🩶

The spot on the sole of your foot known as Bubbling Spring (Kidney 1) is where, in Traditional Chinese Medicine, your body guards its deepest energy reserves.

In TCM, our kidneys are considered our battery 🔋

They provide that foundational energy that helps you get out of bed in the morning. If you’re constantly asking yourself, “Why am I so tired?” and coffee isn’t helping, it may be time to pay more attention to how you’re protecting your energy.

By going barefoot on cold floors, you’re effectively leaving the door open and allowing cold to creep into an area that should be kept warm and protected.

So keep those tootsies warm, people 🩶

Your energy will thank you for it.

Maybe just stop at warm socks though… and not a full-body knitted suit like the one in the photo 🤣

For more information or to book one of our treatments, please DM us or call 07500 116 394.

See you in clinic 🩶

Chinese Medicine will change your life ♥️

💛 Craving sugar after meals Spleen Qi deficiency.
Add more protein to breakfast to stabilise.

💚 If you feel worse after raw veggies, your body is asking for warmth, not more “clean” foods.

🩵 Take 3 deep breaths before each meal to regulate your nervous system to help you process nutrients more effectively.

🩶 Email apnea happens aka holding your breath when answering emails. Pause and breathe to reset your nervous system.

If you’re bloated whether you eat “clean” or not, read that again. 👀👀 because that’s the clue almost everyone misses.

If bloating shows up no matter how healthy your diet is, the issue may not be the food itself. The issue may be that your digestive system has lost the ability to properly transform and move what you’re eating, and no elimination diet fixes that.

It might reduce symptoms for a while, but often the underlying pattern is still there, waiting to resurface.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, bloating isn’t a diagnosis.
It’s a symptom and that symptom can come from several completely different root patterns, including:

🌿 Spleen Qi Deficiency
🌿 Liver Qi Stagnation
🌿 Dampness Accumulation
🌿 Food Stagnation

They can all cause bloating, but they require different approaches.

That’s why the probiotics, digestive enzymes, and generic “drink more water” advice often don’t create lasting change.
They were never matched to your pattern.

Acupuncture and Chinese medicine focus on identifying the root cause behind your symptoms, so treatment is tailored to what your body actually needs.

🎭 How does TCM view Bipolar disorder 🎭

Bipolar Disorder, also called as manic-depression, is a serious mental illness that causes shifts in a person’s mood, energy and ability to function. Bipolar disorder causes dramatic mood changes- from overly high/hyper and/or irritable to sad and hopeless, and then back again, often with periods of normal mood in between.

Some of the common signs & symptoms of mania or manic episode include:

- Increased energy, activity and restlessness
- Extreme impatience
- Excessively ‘high’ euphoric mood
- Paranoid or irritable
- Little sleep needed
- Increased sexual drive
- Poor judgement and reckless behaviour

Whereas for depressive phase of bipolar disorder:
- Extreme lethargy
- Feeling down, anxious and no motivation
- Suicidal thoughts
- Loss of interest in activity
- Sleeping too much or insomnia
- Feeling hopeless and pessimistic

The main organs involved in bipolar disorder are Heart, Liver and Spleen. The main causes in Chinese Medicine theory are disharmony of Yin and Yang, Qi stagnation and blood stasis, phlegm that clouds the mind’s or***ce, fire harassing upwards or disharmony of Ethereal Soul (Hun).

Depending on the root cause, treatment principles are either to move Qi, invigorate blood, resolve phlegm, nourish Heart & Spleen, drain fire, nourish blood and Yin, and calm the mind.

In modern days, treatment of bipolar disorder with Chinese Medicine is usually combined with prescribed medication and psychotherapy. Yet, as always, TCM can help and support a Western protocol. Acupuncture being a useful tool to help support people living with BPD 💜

Traditional Chinese Medicine will change your life ♥️

Today’s tips

Easy bruising = Spleen not holding blood. Strengthen digestion by prioritizing warm foods.

- Brain fog = damp + poor circulation. Move + sip hot water. Game changer.

- Chest tightness = Qi stagnation. Open + breathe deeply for 5 minutes.

- Low appetite = weak digestive fire. Start with warm, simple breakfast foods.

- Feeling inflamed = excess heat. Add cooling foods like chrysanthemum (tea available from Amazon)
