From today, around 1,000 patients with advanced breast cancer will be able to get the life-changing drug Enhertu on the NHS.

This follows changes we've made in how new treatments are assessed, so more people can benefit from them.

It's also thanks to the campaigners and charities who pushed for this moment.

Today is World Patient Safety Day. This year's campaign is 'Safe care for life', and we wanted to talk about Martha's Rule, what it is and how it works.

Martha's Rule is a patient safety initiative to help detect signs of deterioration early and it applies to patients of all ages and conditions. To find out more, search 'Martha's Rule' on the NHS website: https://www.england.nhs.uk/patient-safety/marthas-rule/

Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women globally and represents approximately a quarter of all cancers that occur in women every year.

With 1 in 6 cancer deaths among women worldwide, breast cancer is also the leading cause of cancer deaths among women globally.

Breast cancer is highly curable if detected in its early stages and adequate treatment is provided.

Southport is to become a living storybook for October half term as Books Alive! brings a world of imagination and adventure to the town! 📚🎉

This free kids’ festival will take place from October 24 to 31, bringing children's stories to life with a mix of immersive and interactive experiences throughout the town centre and a festival set to take over The Atkinson.

From events with leading authors, hands-on activities and a new town-wide trail inspired by the iconic book The Jolly Postman as part of its 40th birthday celebrations, organisers are promising lots of fun.

Local businesses are being urged to participate in the family-friendly town-wide cultural celebration as visitors get the chance to engage with nationally recognised authors, artists and creative organisations as they explore Southport this half term. 🤩

- Are aged 65 or over (including those who will be 65 by 31st March 2027).
- Are aged 18 to 64 and have certain long-term health conditions.
- Are pregnant.
- Live in a care home.
- Are the main carer for an elderly or disabled person, or receive a carer's allowance
for someone who has a weakened immune system.
- Are experiencing homelessness or staying in a homeless hostel or night shelter.
