Diabetes Week, 8th–14th June

Diabetes is a chronic condition causing high blood sugar. Type 1 diabetes is caused by an autoimmune reaction, and is often diagnosed in childhood. Type 2 is the most common, and is often driven by obesity and lifestyle choices. Diabetes can lead to serious health issues, but this can be avoided if it is well managed with monitoring, good diet and medication. You can find out the symptoms at https://www.diabetes.org.uk/about-diabetes/symptoms.

This Diabetes Week continues Diabetes UK’s campaign to Strike Out Stigma. Stigma causes harm, because blame and judgement can stop people getting the support they deserve, and the care they need. Find out more and get involved at https://www.diabetes.org.uk/support-us/diabetes-week.

Are you worried that you, your child or someone you know may have diabetes? Having some diabetes symptoms doesn’t mean you definitely have the condition, but you should always contact your GP, just to make sure.

Pride Month

June is Pride Month – a celebration of LGBTQ+ communities all around the world! It’s a time to honour acceptance and equality, and to promote education about LGBTQ+ history, while raising awareness of the ongoing challenges the community faces. https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/zwdsvwx

Did you know that Pride Month is celebrated in June to commemorate the 1969 Stonewall riots, the protests that marked a huge change for gay rights? Pride is just as important today; LGBTQ+ people still face unacceptable stigma and discrimination. Show your support this Pride Month!

LGBTQ+ individuals often face unique challenges and disparities in healthcare. Patients are at the heart of our inclusive and welcoming practice. At 30 Kingsway Surgery, we welcome everyone and strive to provide a safe, supportive and caring environment. We believe in fairness and equality, and value diversity in our staff and patients.

You can increase your fluid intake by eating foods that are high in liquids, such as jelly, ice cream, melon, cucumber or soup.

Dehydration is when your body loses more fluid than you take in. Find out what the symptoms of dehydration are, how to prevent it and when to get medical help.
