💙 COMMUNITY SPOTLIGHT #27 — JAMIE’S SANCTUARY 💙
Our next Community Spotlight is Jamie’s Sanctuary, a West Lothian community group created from unimaginable loss and turned into something that now offers hope, connection and support to other young people and families.
Jamie’s Sanctuary was founded by Debbieanne Marriott after the death of her son, Jamie Rae Aitchison, by su***de in December 2022, aged just 20. The group was created to help prevent other families experiencing the same heartbreak by giving young people somewhere safe and non-judgemental to turn when they are struggling.
💙 Who do they support?
Jamie’s Sanctuary supports young people aged 18–25 in West Lothian who are experiencing:
• Poor mental health
• Suicidal thoughts
• Addiction
• Emotional difficulties, isolation or a need for connection and support
💜 What do they offer?
Support can include:
• Confidential 1:1 support
• Peer and group support
• Wellbeing and confidence-building activities
• Home visits in some circumstances
• Support around mental health, suicidal thoughts and addiction
• Signposting to other specialist services where appropriate
One of the most important things to know is that you do not need a GP referral.
👉 Young people can self-refer directly to Jamie’s Sanctuary through their website, or contact the team by phone, email or Facebook.
💙 Drop-in support is also available in Whitburn, free of charge and with no need to book.
And we’re delighted that Jamie’s Sanctuary will be joining us at West Lothian Mental Health Day. 💜
Come along, meet the team and find out more about the support they provide locally.
