Tonight marks the start of something new. 💛

We’re getting ready to welcome our newest COSCA Certificate in Counselling Skills students through the doors this evening, with our new Diploma in Integrative Counselling & Psychotherapy students following next week.

There’ll be new faces, probably a few nerves, lots to learn and hopefully plenty of laughs along the way.

For some, this will be the first step into the world of counselling. For others, it’s the next stage of a journey they’ve already worked incredibly hard for.

Either way, we know just how much can change between that first night and the day you finally complete your qualification.

So, to everyone starting with us over the next couple of weeks, welcome to S.M.I.L.E.

The world has lost a truly wonderful human being. 💜💛💜

I am heartbroken to hear of the passing of Fiona Pearson —a former colleague, a dear friend and someone who played such an important part in the S.M.I.L.E. journey.

The truth is, Fiona is responsible for so much of S.M.I.L.E.’s success, growth and impact. She believed in what we were trying to build, gave so much of herself to it and helped shape the organisation into what it is today.

And, just as importantly, she was never afraid to keep me in check along the way… which was often a full-time job in itself! 🤣

Behind every statistic, every milestone and every young person whose life has been positively impacted, there are people who helped make it possible. Fiona was undoubtedly one of those people.

Her kindness, commitment and wonderful personality will never be forgotten. I will always be grateful for everything she gave to S.M.I.L.E., and for the memories and laughs we shared along the way.

My thoughts and deepest sympathies are with Fiona’s family, friends and everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.

You will be so sadly missed, Fiona. Your impact and legacy will live on through the countless lives you helped us to change. 💜💛💜

🌒 There’s a solar eclipse happening today, and it got us thinking. When we work with children and young people, what we see on the surface doesn't always tell us what's really going on underneath.

Anger might be fear.
Silence might be overwhelm.
Behaviour might be communication when the words just aren't there yet.

Learning to look beyond what we can immediately see is such an important part of working therapeutically with children and young people.

Well... Monday is the day! 💜

After weeks of boxes, unpacking, moving furniture and trying to work out where everything belongs, we're finally ready to officially open the doors to our new home.

This move feels like a really special milestone for all of us at S.M.I.L.E.
We've gone from 5 counselling rooms to 10, which means we'll be able to support even more people in our community and continue growing the counselling services we offer.

This all feels a little bit like a fresh start for us.

As many of you know, we're in the middle of moving to a new office. 📦 It's a busy time, full of boxes, planning, excitement and a chance to reflect on just how far S.M.I.L.E. has come.

From our very first students to the many counsellors who have gone on to make a real difference in people's lives, we've grown because of the incredible people who choose to learn with us.

We're almost ready to open the door to our new office and we'd love to open the door to the next stage of your training journey too.

Just qualified? First of all... congratulations. 🎉 Whether you've trained in Person-Centred, CBT, Psychodynamic, Integrative (or another approach), getting to the end of your training is a huge achievement.

So... what's next? For many newly qualified counsellors, it's working with children and young people. The reality is that most core counselling qualifications don't provide specialist training to work therapeutically with CYP. It's a completely different way of working and deserves specialist knowledge.
