🚨 MAJOR INCIDENT SIMULATOR — NOW COMING TO THE FIFE MEDICAL GROUP TRAINING ACADEMY 🚨
We are excited to introduce a completely different approach to major incident, multi-agency and emergency response training** through:
This isn't simply about putting casualties in a room and asking someone to treat them.
Major incidents are about command, communication, coordination, information, prioritisation and decision-making — often with incomplete information and rapidly changing circumstances.**
That is exactly what we want our learners to experience.
🟥 JESIP — WORKING TOGETHER, SAVING LIVES
Our Major Incident Simulator training can be built around the principles of JESIP interoperability, giving participants the opportunity to practise how different organisations work together during a developing incident.
JESIP provides a common framework for multi-agency working, including:
🔹 Co-locate
🔹 Communicate
🔹 Co-ordinate
🔹 Jointly understand risk
🔹 Shared situational awareness
These principles are designed to support responders throughout an incident — from the initial response through escalation, coordination and recovery.
METHANE
One of the key elements we can incorporate into scenarios is METHANE
Participants aren't simply told what has happened.
They have to build the picture.
What is the incident?
Where is it?
What hazards are present?
What access or egress issues exist?
What are the numbers of casualties?
What emergency services are required?
What resources are already committed?
And most importantly:
What is happening now — and what might happen next?
METHANE provides a common structure for sharing incident information and developing shared situational awareness between responders and control rooms.
THE JOINT DECISION MODEL
Then comes the difficult part:
Making decisions.
Our scenarios can challenge participants to use the Joint Decision Model (JDM) to bring information together, assess risk, consider available options and make effective joint decisions.
Because in a major incident, there may be no perfect answer.
There may only be:
The best decision you can make with the information you have at that moment.
And then five minutes later, the situation changes.
TST — TACTICAL/SENIOR TEAM DECISION-MAKING
Our simulation approach can also be used to explore Tactical/Senior Team (TST) decision-making, allowing participants to move beyond the immediate clinical response and consider the bigger operational picture.
That means looking at:

➡️ Risk management
➡️ Escalation
➡️ Inter-agency communication
➡️ Command and control
➡️ Casualty flow
➡️ Transport requirements

The aim is to create an environment where leaders and responders have to think, communicate and act together.

A scenario can develop.

Casualty numbers can change.
Hazards can emerge.
Resources can become unavailable.
Communications can become congested.
Priorities can change.
Another agency may arrive with different information.
And suddenly the plan you made five minutes ago isn't the plan you need now.
What do you do?
That's the training.
