📟 shout 04.08.26 📟

The Lochinver lifeboat crew were paged this afternoon at 14:50 by Stornoway Coastguard after they received reports of a person in difficulty of Clachtoll.

The lifeboat launched shortly after and made best speed to the casualty position.

Thankfully 6 minutes after launching the crew received a report from the Coastguard that the person had made their way ashore and was safe.

The lifeboat then returned to base, was washed down and made ready for service again.

Huge shoutout to everyone that came and supported our gala day from all of us here at Lochinver lifeboat station.

Total raised this year was an incredible £2665.29!

Thanks to the fundraising team, crew and all the folk that donated their time and prizes.

Lochinver Lifeboat Gala Day - Sunday 19th July

The Lochinver lifeboat crew and fundraisers are looking forward to welcoming you all tomorrow at our annual Gala Day.

The boat will be open to the public so it’s a great chance to come and see inside the Severn and speak to the crew about what it is we do.

An exciting addition to the day is the Coastguard emergency towing vessel, it will be open to the public from around 12:30.

There will also be stalls, games, BBQ and a souvenir stall - something for everyone!

📟 Shout 16.07.26 📟

The Lochinver lifeboat crew were paged just after 21:00 after Stornoway Coastguard requested the launch of the lifeboat to assist in a multi agency search around the area of Kinlochbervie.

The lifeboat launched shortly afterwards and made best speed into a fresh Northerly breeze arriving on scene around an hour later.

The lifeboat crew immediately commenced searching at the mouth of Loch Inchard and headed in towards the harbour.

Very soon after the lifeboat crew received confirmation from the Coastguard that one of the CG shore teams had thankfully located the person and all assets were being stood down.

The lifeboat was back alongside, refuelled and ready for service again by 00:35

This was also our senior station technician Douglas Pirie’s first shout as Coxswain!

Douglas has been instrumental during many rescues a Mechanic, Navigator and Crewman however this was his first one in command of the lifeboat.

Massive congratulations to our full time Coxswain David. Well deserved recognition for all you have done for your community.

King's Birthday Honours 2026

The Lord-Lieutenant and the whole Lieutenancy team are delighted to congratulate David MacAskill, coxswain of the Lochinver lifeboat and a Deputy Lieutenant for Sutherland, on being made a Member of the Order of the British Empire today.

“The award of the MBE to David MacAskill is richly deserved. For over twenty years he has been a superb and courageous coxswain for the RNLI lifeboat at Lochinver. David MacAskill is a passionate, diligent and selfless leader. He inspires. His dedication and sense of duty is exemplary. His name is synonymous with service.”

“But David has also served the community of Lochinver more widely too. A skilled and thoughtful mechanic, he has run the sole garage in Lochinver and, annually, plays a leading part with the Assynt Tractor Rally which has raised for charity around £10,000 every year for the last four years. Over the years he has been fireman and coastguard too. As a recognition of his service and standing in the north west of Sutherland, he was made a Deputy Lieutenant in 2024.”

The Lochinver lifeboat crew were paged by Stornoway Coastguard at 15:50 after a fishing vessel requested an es**rt due to engine difficulties.

The Lochinver lifeboat launched shortly after into a fresh Southwesterly and met the vessel at the entrance to Loch Inver.

The vessel managed to get safely alongside with assistance from the lifeboat.
