MENOPAUSE OR GLP-1 — WHY IS MY HAIR GETTING THINNER?

Noticing more hair in the shower, a wider parting, or a thinner ponytail?

Hair thinning can become more noticeable during perimenopause and menopause, when hormonal changes can affect the hair growth cycle.

Significant or rapid weight loss — including weight loss while taking GLP-1 medications such as Mounjaro or Wegovy — can also trigger increased shedding. Reduced protein intake, iron deficiency and other nutritional factors may contribute.

Sometimes, more than one factor is involved.

That’s why the first step shouldn’t simply be choosing a hair treatment. It’s important to understand what may be causing the hair loss so that treatment can be tailored appropriately.
